General Definition of Work Performs intermediate semiskilled work setting up, tearing down, cleaning, and maintaining civic facilities and equipment for sporting events, shows, and other activities, assisting staff and the general public, operating equipment, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the moderate supervision of the Civic Center Operations Supervisor.
Essential Functions • Sets up and tears down facilities for sports events, shows, and other activities; sets up, takes down, modifies, and arranges special seating, scaffolding, press boxes, stages, floors, and tables as required.
• Performs set-up, repair, and maintenance on a variety of equipment including score boards, lighting, and public address systems.
• Cleans and maintains facility and grounds; prepares and maintains sports facilities and fields as required.
• Assists catering, security, and event staff during events; assists the general public as needed.
• Operates equipment including forklifts, scissor lifts, loaders, floor machines, buffers, lawn mowers, and other equipment as needed.
• Loads, transports, and unloads various materials, equipment, and supplies to a variety of locations and facilities.
• Assists with snow and ice removal.

Valid driver's license in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
Education & Experience
Less than high school diploma or GED, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Some knowledge of building set up and arrangements; general knowledge of the operation of HVAC and electrical systems; general knowledge of the safe use, operation, and preventive maintenance of the assigned equipment; general knowledge in reading and interpreting diagrams and schematics; skill in the use of assigned equipment; ability to understand and follow specific oral instructions; ability to perform manual labor for extended periods, often under unfavorable weather conditions; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with vendors, promotors, government officials, associates, and the general public.
Physical Requirements
This work requires the regular exertion of up to 25 pounds of force and occasional exertion of over 100 pounds of force; work regularly requires standing, walking, speaking or hearing, using hands to finger, handle or feel, reaching with hands and arms, pushing or pulling, lifting and repetitive motions, frequently requires climbing or balancing and occasionally requires sitting, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling and tasting or smelling; work requires close vision, distance vision, ability to adjust focus, depth perception, color perception, night vision and peripheral vision; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word and conveying detailed or important instructions to others accurately, loudly or quickly; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels and to receive detailed information through oral communications and/or to make fine distinctions in sound; work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, using of measuring devices, operating machines, operating motor vehicles or equipment and observing general surroundings and activities; work frequently requires exposure to bloodborne pathogens and may be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment and occasionally requires working near moving mechanical parts, working in high, precarious places, exposure to fumes or airborne particles, exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals, exposure to outdoor weather conditions, exposure to the risk of electrical shock, exposure to vibration and wearing a self-contained breathing apparatus; work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g. business office, light traffic).
