REPORTS TO: Division Superintendent
JOB GOAL: To use supervisory, administrative, and leadership skills that will promote the educational development of each student and enhance the public perception of all elementary school programs.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Hold the Postgraduate Professional License with an endorsement as an elementary school principal.
Have had at least three years of successful experience in public education.
Have demonstrated the professional and personal characteristics necessary for working effectively with students, school personnel, and members of the community.
PERFORMANCE DUTIES:
• Provides the necessary leadership and expertise for a quality instructional program for all students.
• Supervises all personnel assigned to the school.
• Assumes responsibility for the safety and administration of the school plant.
• Establishes and maintains an effective learning climate for the school.
• Establishes and maintains an open line of communication with staff, students, and the community.
• Prepares and administers the school budget and supervises school finances.
• Supervises the maintenance of all required building records and reports.
• Develops the teaching schedule and any special assignments.
• Initiates, designs, and implements programs to meet the specific needs of the school.
• Prepares or supervises the preparation of reports, records, lists, and all other paperwork required or appropriate to the school's administration.
• Participates in meetings appropriate to the position of principal and the effectiveness of all school programs.
• Attends special events held to recognize student achievement and attends school-sponsored activities and functions.
• Attends classes, conferences, and workshops needed for recertification and professional development.
• Informs appropriate central office staff of school operations and coordinates activities, procedures, and functions with central office staff as needed.
• Maintains high standards of student conduct and enforces discipline as necessary, using due process in dealing with the rights of students.
• Maintains high standards for student academic performance.
• Interprets and enforces district policies and administrative regulations.
• Maintains active relationships with students and parents.
• Secures substitute personnel.
• Assists in the development, revisions, and evaluation of the curriculum.
• Supervises the maintenance of all attendance, academic, and health records of students.
• Conducts staff meetings as necessary for the proper functioning of the school.
• Assumes responsibility for personal professional growth through membership and participation in professional organizations, conferences, reading, and enrollment in advanced professional courses.
• Maintains all records of recertification credit for all certificated personnel.
• Develops, updates, and evaluates the Annual School Improvement Plan.
• Supervises custodial staff in minor maintenance and proper cleaning of the school plant; makes periodic checks of the building and grounds to determine maintenance, repair, and cleaning needs; and informs proper authorities concerning needed assistance.
• Coordinates school bus operations with the supervisor of transportation; works cooperatively with bus drivers to assure safe and efficient transportation; assists bus drivers in solving problems with the discipline of buses whenever such problems are referred; and plans for safe traffic flow on school property.
• Selects and assigns personnel.
• Relates formal evaluation of certificated personnel to Standards of Learning.
• Attends staff meetings as required.
• Discharges all responsibilities and fulfills all obligations as specified in the contract, policies, and guidelines of the Floyd County School Board.
• Performs other duties as assigned by the superintendent.
