The Department of Pediatric & Adolescent Medicine at Mayo Clinic in Mankato, MN, is seeking a board certified/board eligible Pediatric Hospitalist to join our vibrant, growing pediatric practice in Mayo Clinic Health System’s largest hub site in Minnesota. Mayo Clinic Health System-Mankato has over 1,500 deliveries per year. Overview of Role:Our Inpatient Pediatric Care Team has an opening for a Supplemental Pediatric Hospitalist. Physicians will work both independently and in collaboration with a multidisciplinary care team to assess, diagnose, manage, and evaluate the health care needs of neonates, infants and children. Physicians in this position will care for patients affected by prematurity, respiratory distress, infectious diseases, congenital heart disease, and/or other anomalies. Clinical responsibilities include attendance at deliveries (including high-risk), resuscitation of newborns, care of healthy newborns, day-to-day management of babies in the Level II Nursery, and care of hospitalized children. Procedures performed include circumcisions, umbilical central lines, lumbar punctures, frenulectomies, intubations, and emergent needle decompression of pneumothorax. Services Provided:MCHS Mankato has the largest number of deliveries in the Mayo Clinic Health System. Mankato has the only Level II Nursery within 80 miles, and provides care to premature babies and other newborns requiring special care due to low birth weight, respiratory distress, or various other disorders. Babies requiring care in a NICU are transferred to Rochester or Minneapolis/St. Paul.Practice Dynamics (Inpatient/Outpatient, Call, Outreach):This position is solely inpatient. Hospitalists stay in-house. Shifts are 24 hours in length.Collaborative/Supportive Partnerships: The Mankato pediatric inpatient team is composed of pediatric hospitalists and advanced practice providers (APPs). The APPs assist with care of normal newborns. The Mayo Clinic pediatric subspecialists in Rochester provide a ready source of support and consultation. Qualifications
Licensure/Certification: Qualified candidates will have, or have the ability to obtain, the following required licenses and certifications: a current and unrestricted license to practice medicine in the State of Minnesota, DEA license, board certified or board eligible in Pediatrics, and Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. Need Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) upon hire, and Neonatal Resuscitation Plan (NRP) certification.Other qualifications: Candidates will possess the ability to work independently/autonomously and interdependently with other health care professionals. Extensive patient assessment skills using diagnostic methods and instruments are required as is the ability to develop appropriate plans of care, modifying as indicated. Candidates will possess effective communication skills and interpersonal skills with patients, families and members of health care team.
