KyUMH administers the Caminos program through partnerships with Board of Child Care and the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services, Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR). This program is an expansion of our services as we answer God’s call to serve those who are victims of abuse, neglect and/or trauma. Summary of Function: The Program Support Specialist (PSS) is part of an interdisciplinary team and one in which professional and effective communication is valued. The Program Support Specialist will support the operational efficiencies of the Caminos shelter to ensure tasks are completed in a timely and accurate manner. The Program Support Specialist role is a specific to supporting Unit Supervisors and their programs, working closely with Unit Supervisors to ensure program continuity. The PSS is a supervisory role that shares the supervision of Youth Care Associates with the Unit Supervisors. The PSS is knowledgeable of – and oversees direct care staffing and schedules. Required Education and Experience Two (2) years education from a college or university and two (2) years of work experience in a child-caring facility; or, A high school diploma, or an equivalence certificate and at least five (5) years’ work experience in a child-caring facility. Preferred Education and Experience Bachelor’s Degree in Human Services field Bilingual Spanish/English Skills and Abilities Needed: Strong Microsoft Excel skills Excellent written and verbal communication skills Handle sensitive and confidential situations and documentation. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees Must be computer literate. Job Specific Duties and Responsibilities (not inclusive): Coaches and mentors direct care staff to engage in supportive conversations with youth and their role as a positive, consistent support in the recovery from complex trauma. Encourage and role model actions in a calm, respectful and patient manner. Provides direct supervision to Youth Care Associates, ensuring compliance to agency policies and procedures as well as to state, federal and ORR regulations. Scheduling of Youth Care Associates; provide training of new Youth Care Associates; ensuring staff ratios are met; approves recreation calendars/activities; submits clothing inventory to Assistant Program Director. Demonstrates the ability to minimize overtime of direct care staff. Provides direct feedback to direct care staff though monthly supervision and annual evaluations. Demonstrate an understanding of the value of cultural diversity, including the ability to maintain systems and practices that are inclusive of diverse staff members and responsive to the cultural needs of the client population served. Demonstrate knowledge of and familiarity with KYUMH, Board of Child Care and Office of Refugee Resettlement Policy and Procedures relating to the care and supervision of Unaccompanied Children. This includes knowledge of legal background and authority governing the practice as related to working with Unaccompanied Children. Provides mandatory on-call coverage as required. Assume Unit Supervisor programming needs in cottage in the extended absence of a Unit Supervisor; mentor and provide supportive direction to an appointed Youth Specialist to co-lead the program until the return of the Unit Supervisor. Fosters quality and diversity in problem identification and conflict resolution among clients and co-workers.
