A Medical Coding Specialist will provide quality review and analysis of patient medical records, ensure accuracy of coding, and maintain records in accordance with accepted medical and legal standards. Responsible for assuring proper billing of the medical records, comparison of physician chosen CPT and ICD-10 codes to the providers’ documentation. Duties and Responsibilities: - Post all charges (Clinic, Rehab, MRI, Surgery, and Medical Records, etc.) as recorded on fee slips to appropriate accounts accurately and efficiently. - Provide prompt, courteous and accurate information to inquiries from appropriate parties and makes every reasonable effort to assist patients to an acceptable resolution of their problems or requests. - Follow current ICD-10 and CPT guidelines. - Report new patterns or problems with fee slip completion. Gathers data on problems so they can be addressed. - Runs all routine and requested reports for daily routines. - Perform any additional duties as may be assigned. - Compliance with HIPAA and OSHA. Qualifications: - Cooperative work attitude toward co-employees, management, patients, visitors, and physicians/extenders - Ability to promote favorable facility image with physicians, patients, hospitals, other physician offices, and general public - Ability to document processes and improve their efficiency - Ability to make decisions and solve problems - Work effectively as a team member with physicians and other staff - Appropriately interact with patients, families, and others - Ability to flexibly respond to changing demands Requirements: Required - High school diploma or GED certificate - Basic office skills including data entry - Good communication skills and ability to deal with the public in a professional, courteous manner.
