Director of Little Lakers Child Care Center The Director of Little Lakers Child Care Center is responsible for listening, interpreting, aligning teams to perform in a way that is congruent with the operational values of the organization, bridging the communication between the community and the staff, and making sure that the tempo of the center stays on beat all to protect the health and safety of each child served by the center. The Director oversees day-to-day activities, ensuring quality care for every child while providing effective methods and strategies that align with the non-profit structure and board direction and that exceed regulations stipulated by DHS. Primary Objective/Scope Reporting to and under the direction of the Little Lakers Child Care Board of Directors, the Director provides the leadership, management and vision necessary to ensure that Little Lakers Child Care Center has the proper operational controls, accountability, reporting procedures, and people systems in place to effectively provide high quality, nurturing care to children. The primary responsibilities of the Child Care Director are listed below: HR/Staffing ● Recruit high quality staff for the child care center. ● Plan, develop, schedule, and provide in-service training and evaluation of child care staff. ● Maintain appropriate personnel files congruent with DHS/State requirements. ● Train, encourage, and mentor teachers and other staff as needed on a weekly basis. ● Coordinate bi-weekly and daily schedules and daily staff distribution. From time-to-time, it may be necessary to fill in classrooms or to help as an assistant. ● Visit classrooms and observe teaching methods to provide feedback. ● Establish performance goals and objectives and build in accountability. ● Ensure that problems encountered by staff are resolved according to the center’s Org Chart, vision, mission, values, and program policies. Administration ● Maintain program operating policies that exceed MN Dept. of Human Services Rule 3 Regulations. ● Ensure timely and accurate communications with state departments. ● Revise policies or procedures as needed to ensure smooth operation of the program. ● Ensure that the facility and staff conform to federal, state, and local rules, regulations, and licensing requirements. ● Develop emergency procedures and assure staff is appropriately trained in emergencies. ● Coordinate meals and snacks including purchasing and working with contractors. ● Process intake paperwork and provide orientation for new families. ● Order and maintain child care supplies and equipment, including managing food/supply vendor relationships. Financial ● Develop cost estimates for future program needs. ● Prepare budgets and annual reports. ● Maintain appropriate waitlist and scheduling of students to ensure financial stability of the program. ● Develop grant or contract proposals; conduct fund-raising activities; implement contracts with child care funding agencies. Public Relations / Communication ● Conduct marketing campaigns, maintain public relations with parents, prospective clients, business members and community organizations. ● Work with parents on a regular basis to discuss the development of their enrolled children and to better understand how to better serve the needs of families. ● Be proactive and professional in managing family situations that arise. ● Serve as the spokesperson for Little Lakers Child Care Center. ● Assist teacher in preparing for and presenting early childhood programs and activities including required conferences. Required Qualifications ● Must be at least 18 years old; ● Be a graduate of a high school or hold an equivalent diploma ● Have at least 1,040 hours of paid or unpaid staff supervision experience ● Have at least nine quarter credits or 90 hours earned in any combination of accredited courses in staff supervision, human relations, and child development ● If a director functions as a teacher or develops or revises the child care program plan, the director must meet the qualifications of a teacher specified in part 9503.0032. Preferred Qualifications ● Experience as a Director ● Experience with budgeting ● Experience with leading teams ● A degree is early childhood development, education or similar field Physical Demands The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The employee must be physically able to use a computer with basic proficiency, lift a minimum of 40 pounds, and work indoors or outdoors. Must be able to assume postures in low levels to allow physical and visual contact with children, see and hear well enough to keep children safe, and engage in physical activity with children. Position Type/Expected Hours of Work This is a full-time position, and hours of work and days are generally Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Extended hours will be necessary as needed to cover staffing during center hours.
