Roanoke County Public Schools is currently seeking applicants for a Gifted Resource Teacher for the 2024-25 school year.
Applicants must hold a current standard Virginia Postgraduate Professional License with an endorsement for Gifted Education.
This is a 200 day 7.33 hours per day position.
Position Description/Job Summary:
The teacher will plan and provide for appropriate learning experiences for academically gifted students. Provide an atmosphere and environment conducive to the unique intellectual, social, and emotional development of the gifted population. Establish goals and monitor and evaluate student outcomes. Communicate and interact with students, parents, staff, and community. Develop, select, and modify instructional plans and materials to meet the needs of identified gifted students. Maintain appropriate records and follow required procedures and practices. Administer and interpret group and individual gifted screening assessments.
Responsibilities/Duties/Functions/Tasks:
• Plan a program of study that, as much as possible, meet the unique needs, interests and abilities of academically gifted students.
• Develops relationships with classroom teachers and collaborate when appropriate to deliver gifted services.
• Provide professional development on differentiation, the general needs of gifted students, the identification process, and other related topics as needed.
• Deliver an instructional program to meet the unique needs of academically gifted students.
• Prepare appropriate instructional activities and show written evidence of preparation upon request of supervisor.
• Administer group and individual assessments in strict compliance with testing guidelines and maintain confidentiality of materials and results.
• Establish learning objectives consistent with appraisal of individual student needs, and knowledge of the gifted students' growth and development.
• Plan for and utilize instructional methods, resources and evaluation techniques which motivate students, including incorporation of deeper learning activities.
• Take all necessary and safety precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
• Maintain accurate and complete records as required by law, Roanoke County Public Schools' policy and administrative regulation.
• Assist the administration in implementing all policies and rules governing student life and conduct, develops reasonable behavior norms and procedures, and maintain order in a fair and just manner.
• Make provision for being available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day when required or requested to do so under reasonable terms.
• Establish relationships with colleagues, students, parents, and community which reflect recognition of and respect for every individual.
• Plan and supervise extracurricular gifted programming such as Insight, Quest, DI, etc.
• Strive to maintain and improve professional excellence through lifelong learning.
• Demonstrate and model intellectual curiosity.
• • Remain current on instructional technology in education.
• Attend staff meetings and serve on staff committees.
• Perform other duties as required and adapt to changes in assignments and gifted programming.
Minimum Job Requirements/Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in education from an accredited college or university.
A Collegiate Professional License with an endorsement in Gifted Education is required. Applicants must be positive, flexible, and professional. A history of exemplary classroom performance is preferred.
