Position Overview:
We are seeking a skilled Construction Accountant to join our accounting department. The Construction Accountant is responsible for ensuring accurate accounting of job costs incurred during the construction process and providing crucial financial information to support decision-making. This role, who reports directly to the Construction Controller, plays a vital part in our commitment to excellence.
Responsibilities:
• Collect cost information and maintain an expenses database.
• Manage Accounts Payable/Receivable for overhead payments.
• Determine and maintain fixed costs (e.g., salaries, rent, and insurance).
• Plan and record variable costs (e.g., purchases of raw materials and operational costs).
• Review standard and actual costs for inaccuracies.
• Assist in month-end and year-end closing processes (GAAP Experience Preferred).
• Identify and recommend cost-effective solutions.
• Process weekly in-house payroll, including taxes, miscellaneous deductions, and 401K management.
• Process all accounts payable invoices for assigned jobs.
• Match invoices to packing slips and purchase orders issued by the Project Managers.
• Enter approved invoices into the accounting system.
• Ensure that all materials are correctly costed to the appropriate jobs.
• Invoice all jobs promptly with the assistance of the Project Manager.
• Assist with the schedule of values and enter it into the accounting system.
• Prepare invoices and supporting documentation.
• Obtain all necessary lien releases.
• Track and maintain Certificates of Insurance.
• Perform all collection processes.
• Provide reports and supporting documentation as requested for each assigned job by Project Managers, the Controller, or Leadership and Executive Teams.
Skills and Qualifications:
• Proven work experience as a Cost Accountant, AR/AP Accountant, Accountant, or a similar role in the construction industry.
• Thorough knowledge of accounting procedures.
• In-depth understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
• MUST HAVE experience with SAGE 300/Textura/Procore or similar construction accounting software.
• Proficiency in computer literacy, especially MS Excel (familiarity with VLOOKUPs and pivot tables).
• Excellent analytical skills with meticulous attention to detail.
• Strong time management skills to meet project deadlines.
• Integrity, with an ability to handle confidential information.
Education and Experience:
• Associate degree in Accounting or a related field (Preferred).
• Minimum of 3 years of accounting experience, with at least 3 years in the construction industry (Required).
