The Roanoke County School Board seeks applications from persons interested in the Dean of Students position for the 2024-25 school year.
Job Description and Major Responsibilities:
The Dean of Students works with the principal to carry out the school's mission and vision for student learning and success. The Dean of Students provides proactive leadership to engage stakeholders in the delivery of programs and services which support students' intellectual, social, and emotional learning and growth.
Essential Job Functions:
• Assists in the development of positive behavior intervention and support systems to meet student academic and behavioral needs.
• Provides direct support to students, teachers, and staff to minimize disruptions to the learning environment.
• Assists with school-wide emergency and safety planning.
• Attends and assists in various leadership team meetings and other building meetings as assigned.
• Assists with operational processes including student textbook distribution/needs, student parking, and assignment of student lockers.
• Assists with general building operations and school maintenance needs.
• Assists with school-wide and event supervision including daily duties in assigned areas.
• Demonstrates ability to communicate orally and in writing with clarity and conciseness.
• Positively motivates students to develop responsibility for individual decision-making and self regulation.
• May participate in instructional mentoring/coaching activities and conduct classroom observations with the principal, but will not serve as evaluator of instructional staff.
• Remains knowledgeable and implements School Board policies and district procedures.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
• A minimum of five years successful teaching
• Postgraduate Professional Certificate with endorsement in Administration/Supervision PK-12 completed by July 31, 2022. Candidates currently enrolled in an Educational Leadership program leading to administration/supervision licensure will be considered, but must complete licensure requirements by July 31, 2022 in order to be eligible for the Dean of Students position for the 2022-2023 school year.
• SLLA must be on file in Human Resources before applying. Candidates currently enrolled in an Educational Leadership program leading to administration/supervision licensure will be considered but must complete SLLA requirements by July 31, 2022 in order to be eligible for the Dean of Students position for the 2022-2023 school year.
