Job Description
Position Summary
Branch Civil, Inc. is searching for a collaborative and driven Lead Estimator to join our well-established, growing company. The Lead Estimator provides direction and oversight for multiple estimating teams in developing accurate and timely estimates for projects to be bid. The Lead Estimator must possess a thorough working knowledge of heavy civil construction and site development as related to all disciplines. This position requires the candidate to be a self-starter, have a strong work ethic, and to be committed to quality. The Lead Estimator reports to the Chief Estimator
Duties/Responsibilities
• Assign and supervise the work of other estimators in one or more locations
• Accountable for reviewing and closing each bid developed by the estimating team while ensuring completeness and accuracy
• Review Invitations to Bid and RFPs and make Go/No Go recommendations to Sr. Leadership
• Assesses project risks and develops plans to mitigate.
• Establish winning bid strategies
• Reviewing estimates with project managers, superintendents and other estimators to ensure project costs are accurately captured
• Developing relationships with customers, subcontractors, and suppliers through direct communication
• Identifying value-engineering alternatives and other opportunities to gain a competitive advantage.
• Assure compliance with MBE/DBE requirements of contract in bid process. Assure that all appropriate subcontractors have been solicited
Duties/Responsibilities Cont.
• Understand all safety, quality, and environmental standards and procedures
• Review preliminary project schedule based on the information provided in the plans and specifications Involvement in strategic recruitment and staffing, succession planning, and training.
• Manage the onboarding process of new employees.
• Serve as mentor to junior team members and provide counsel to experienced staff
• Provides leadership to drive the development of staff
• Prepare preliminary budgets
• Manage the project hand-off process to effectively communicate the project scope, complexities, and estimate strategy to the operations team.
• Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree in civil engineering, construction management or related field; or equivalent experience.
• 10 years experience in a senior level estimating role
• Thorough understanding of external/internal market factors
• Read and interpret drawings.
• HCSS HeavyBid experience required.
• Proficiency with Agtek earthwork software
• Ability to anticipate and account for potential quality, safety, productivity and schedule implications
• Advanced knowledge of construction principles and capabilities of manpower and equipment.
• Advanced understanding of bidding different contract types

Travel is estimated at approximately 30%. Occasional travel to other regions of the country and overnight stays

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
Office days and hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5 p.m. Work hours may include occasional nights and weekends which may include overnight stays.
