Description The City of Roanoke Transportation Division is seeking seasonal workers in the Landscape Crew to serve in the Department of Public Works. The Landscape crew performs routine turf and landscape maintenance tasks within the City of Roanoke's Right of Way (ROW). Ability to operate equipment such as Ventrac, zero turn, walk-behind and push mowers, string trimmers, edgers and blowers. Makes repairs and renovations to ROW’s and medians including mulching, planting, aerating, overseeding and sodding. Operates dump truck and light equipment in snow removal and assists with emergency tasks, including some nights and weekends as needed A valid Virginia driver’s license may be required. High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and one to three years related experience and/or training in landscape operations, motorized equipment and the performance of heavy manual labor; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Completion of other tasks and jobs supporting the division may be assigned. Work 40 hours per week from April - November.

Examples of Duties Transportation (Seasonal):
Performs routine turf and landscape maintenance tasks within the City of Roanoke's Rights of Way. Operates a variety of mowing equipment, edgers, string trimmers, leaf blowers and other small power equipment. Work is accomplished under the direction of Crew Leaders. High school diploma or general education degree (GED); one to three months related experience and/or training in landscape maintenance and performance of heavy manual work is desirable; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Work 40 hours per week from April - November.
Typical Qualifications
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Loads and unloads gravel, dirt, timber, chemicals, and other materials, tools and equipment
Cuts grass and trees, rakes leaves
Digs shallow trenches and ditches
Picks up paper and debris on public property and streets
Performs various street maintenance duties such as cleaning gutters, spreading sand and salt and shoveling snow
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This job has no supervisory responsibilities.
