General Definition of Work Performs semiskilled work in the procurement, storage, inventory, and issuance of parts for the repair and servicing of City vehicles and equipment, maintaining the cleanliness of the City garage, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the moderate supervision of the assigned supervisor.
Essential Functions • Picks up and delivers vehicles, automotive parts, supplies, and equipment to and from garage, departments, and suppliers.
• Provides payment for purchases and maintains logs of City asset purchases.
• Performs routine cleaning of garage, vehicles, equipment, parts, and tools.
• Stocks, sorts, audits, and adjusts inventory; notifies supervisor of low inventory and purchasing needs.
• Assists automotive mechanics and parts personnel as needed.
• Provides daily delivery by transferring assets for the local library system.
• Assists with snow and ice removal.
• Assists other departments with a variety of tasks as needed.

Valid driver's license in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
Education & Experience
High school diploma or GED and minimal experience working in a garage and assisting with servicing automobiles, trucks, or heavy equipment, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
General knowledge of hand tools, equipment, and techniques used in the service and repair of automotive equipment; some knowledge of shop tools and machinery; skill in the use of personal computers, associated software packages, hardware, and peripheral equipment; ability to detect by inspection any worn or broken automotive parts; ability to follow oral and written instructions accurately; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates, vendors, and the general public.
Physical Requirements
This work requires the regular exertion of up to 25 pounds of force, frequent exertion of up to 50 pounds of force and occasional exertion of up to 100 pounds of force; work regularly requires speaking or hearing and lifting, frequently requires standing, walking, sitting, using hands to finger, handle or feel, reaching with hands and arms, pushing or pulling and repetitive motions and occasionally requires climbing or balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling and tasting or smelling; work requires close vision, distance vision, ability to adjust focus, depth perception, color perception and peripheral vision; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word and conveying detailed or important instructions to others accurately, loudly or quickly; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels and to receive detailed information through oral communications and/or to make fine distinctions in sound; work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, using of measuring devices, assembly or fabrication of parts within arm's length, operating machines, operating motor vehicles or equipment and observing general surroundings and activities; work regularly requires working near moving mechanical parts, exposure to fumes or airborne particles and exposure to outdoor weather conditions, frequently requires exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals and exposure to vibration and occasionally requires wet, humid conditions (non-weather), working in high, precarious places, wearing a self-contained breathing apparatus and exposure to bloodborne pathogens and may be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment; work is generally in a very loud noise location (e.g. jack hammer work, garbage recycle plant).
