Perform routine histpathological tests in a clinical laboratory for use in the treatment and diagnosis of disease.

Responsibilities
PATIENT POPULATION - (CLINICAL ONLY):
Engages in population appropriate communication.
Has knowledge of growth and development milestones and tasks.
Gives clear instructions to patients/family regarding treatment.
Involves family/guardian in the assessment, initial treatment and continuing care of the patient.
Identifies any physical limitations of the patient and deploys intervention when necessary.
Recognizes and responds appropriately to patients/families with behavioral health problems.
Interprets population related data and plans care appropriately.
Identifies and responds appropriately to different needs resulting from, unique psychological needs or those associated with religious / cultural norms. Performs treatments, administers medication or operates equipment safely.
Recognizes and responds to signs/symptoms of abuse or neglect.
Perform routine paraffin sections of surgical and autopsy tissue for microscopic examination in the diagnosis and treatment of disease.
Prepare equipment and reagents for processing, embedding, microtome cutting and mounting of tissue; perform routine and special staining techniques. 
Label, file, discard and maintain records of tissue samples of containers, tissue processing cassettes, final paraffin bloods and slides. 
Label and record slides of specimens received; provide specimens for microscopic examination and diagnosis by the pathologist. 
Obtain and log specimens from the operating rooms and other areas as required.
Perform frozen cytostat sectioning.
Perform various Quality Control procedures to maintain compliance with internal and external regulations.
Utilize various hospital information systems and software, including Electronic Medical Records.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Associates Degree required; Bachelors' Degree preferred. | ASCP Certification as a Histotechnologist or Histotechnician required. | Preferred: one year experience.
