A/V Specialist Department of Information Technology Temporary, Part-time, Non-Exempt Non-Benefits Eligible, Non-VRS Eligible Job Summary/ Objective: Assists customers in resolving technology issues in a timely and professional manner with a focus on audio/video services. Essential Functions: Provides ongoing technical support for virtual and hybrid meeting environments, for Zoom, Teams, and hardware/software intersection issues; Sets up and operate audio and video equipment including microphones, sound speakers, video screens, projectors, video monitors, recording equipment, connecting wires and cables, sound and mixing boards, and related electronic equipment for meetings presentations; Administers the County’s Zoom account, including managing licenses, providing training and technical support, communicating planned outages and upgrades, as well as monitoring Zoom account for conflicts; Manages the storage of virtual meeting records; Tracks/communicates planned service outages, necessary updates, as well as service and functionality changes of virtual meeting software; Assists with the designing/recommending/implementing standards and templates for virtual meeting software and meeting standards; Assists during various public meetings to ensure the proper operation of sound and visual systems; Works a flexible schedule, including weekends and evenings as required; Assists with coordination of multimedia equipment selection and regular maintenance. Performs various other activities as required. Competency: Knowledge/ Skills/Abilities: Ability to work well with people and as part of a cross-functional team. Requires excellent interpersonal communication skills, especially the ability to communicate technical ideas clearly and translate user requests, and an ability to communicate effectively to a diverse audience. Strong customer-service orientation. Skill in troubleshooting a variety of complex computer hardware and software issues. Ability to operate effectively and graciously in stressful situations. Knowledge of the installation and maintenance of a wide variety of audio-visual hardware and software. Considerable knowledge of Zoom and Microsoft Teams. Experience with training users, from novice to expert, how to use software from scheduling to producing meetings. Ability to counsel users on identifying the best software for their business needs. Demonstrated ability to work independently and assume responsibility for assigned software and hardware without direct supervision. Ability to prioritize work schedules. Ability to investigate, identify, and correct problems in assigned work areas. Required Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience equivalent to high school and two years of experience in Audio/Visual field with additional IT experience knowledge. Functional knowledge of computer software and MS Windows operating system. Experience in Zoom, Microsoft Teams, or similar teleconferencing platform is a must. Skills using MS Office. Preferred Qualifications/Certifications: Preferably one of the following: Baccalaureate degree from an accredited four-year college/university in computer science, information systems management, business management, or a related field. Community college degree in Computer Science or Business. Additional experience may be substituted for education. Certifications such as HDI, A+, Network+, MCP, MCSA, MCSE, ITIL, PMP, PBA, ECBA, CCBA, CBAP. Experience producing television or online content in a studio or field production environment is ideal. Physical and Mental Requirements: Work is typically performed in an office, data center or conference rooms. Communicate in in-person and virtual meetings. Regular use of telephone and chat. Regular use of computers. Regular handling of small computer components. Lifting of up to 100 pounds. Occasional need to perform urgent tasks to meet organizational deadlines. Occasional work after normal business hours. Occasional weekend duties. Occasional operation of county vehicles to travel to locations throughout the county is required. Regular contact with other county employees and senior leadership at all levels of County government. Employees in this position may be considered essential personnel and fall under Albemarle County AP-4 and in addition, be subject to working overtime, being held over, or called back for disasters, local emergencies, or special events. Remote Work: This position is eligible for a hybrid remote work schedule that is in compliance with the County’s Remote Work Policy and meets the operational and service needs for the position. All County staff must maintain residence within the Commonwealth of Virginia. Salary Range: The hiring range for this position is up to $25 per hour. Starting offer is based on applicable education beyond minimum requirements and internal equity. This is a part-time, FLSA non-exempt position, not to exceed 30 hours per week. Internal candidates will receive pay adjustments in accordance with Local Government Personnel Policy, §P-60.
