Serving a modest base of just over 400 customers, the Authority operates a small, 0.175 million gallons per day wastewater plant that focuses on essential, routine field testing without the complexity of in-house laboratory work. Its waterworks system, relying on well-based sources, demands straightforward procedural operations. Summary of Job Performs skilled work in the operations of the sewage treatment plant and waterworks operations. Completes reports/evaluates operations of equipment/collects samples. Makes regular tours of wastewater and waterworks facilities. Performs routine testing under the direction of the Administrator and in accordance with regulatory requirements. Completes daily logs of operations. Evaluates equipment and performs routine maintenance as required. Field work to include maintenance of lines as required. Must have at least a Class 3 Wastewater Works Operator License OR a Class 4 Waterworks Operator License to be considered. Once hired, must have the ability to obtain and maintain the aforementioned license that you do not possess within 18 months of employment. Pay scale based on licenses obtained at and during employment. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Operate sewage treatment plant and waterworks facilities, ensuring efficient and compliant operations. Complete and submit accurate reports on the operations of equipment, including evaluations of their efficiency and condition. Collect samples from various points within the wastewater and waterworks systems for testing, in line with regulatory requirements. Conduct regular tours of the wastewater and waterworks facilities to monitor equipment and infrastructure status. Perform routine testing of water and sewage samples under the guidance of the Administrator, adhering to all regulatory and safety standards. Maintain daily logs of operations, documenting key activities, observations, and any issues encountered. Evaluate the condition and performance of equipment, performing routine maintenance and minor repairs as necessary to ensure operational reliability. Engage in fieldwork, including the maintenance of sewer and water lines, to prevent or address issues such as leaks or blockages. Possess at least a Class 3 Wastewater Works Operator License OR a Class 4 Waterworks Operator License at the time of hiring. Obtain and maintain the required licensure not held at the time of hiring within 18 months of employment, demonstrating commitment to professional development and compliance with regulatory standards. Subject to a twenty-four (24) hour call. Other duties as assigned. Qualifications To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Licensing Requirements: Possession of at least a Class 3 Wastewater Works Operator License or a Class 4 Waterworks Operator License at the time of hiring. Ability to obtain and maintain the alternate license (Class 3 Wastewater Works Operator License or Class 4 Waterworks Operator License) not held at the time of hiring within 18 months of employment. Education and Experience: High school diploma or equivalent; post-secondary education in related field is preferred. Prior experience in water and wastewater treatment operations is highly desirable. Experience in performing routine maintenance on mechanical equipment and systems related to water and wastewater operations. Experience in operating heavy equipment such as a backhoe is highly desirable. Technical Skills: Knowledge of the operations, maintenance, and safety procedures related to sewage treatment plants and waterworks facilities. Ability to perform routine laboratory testing and interpret results to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements. Analytical Skills: Ability to evaluate the operations of equipment and identify necessary maintenance or adjustments. Competency in collecting and analyzing data for operational reports and logs. Physical Requirements: Capability to perform fieldwork, including maintenance of lines, and the physical dexterity to handle tools and perform repairs. Communication Skills: Strong written and verbal communication skills for completing reports, maintaining logs, and effectively communicating with colleagues and supervisors. Regulatory Knowledge: Familiarity with environmental regulations and standards governing water and wastewater treatment operations. Problem-Solving Abilities: Aptitude for troubleshooting and resolving operational, mechanical, and environmental issues encountered during daily operations. Commitment to Safety: Understanding and adherence to all workplace safety protocols and procedures, including those specific to handling hazardous materials and operating heavy equipment.
