Job Title: Animal Care Technician Department: Animal Care FLSA Status: Full-Time Non-Exempt Reports To: Animal Care and Behavioral Manager General Scope: Provides quality basic and behavioral care for SICSA resident animals, in accordance with SICSA's policies and procedures. Essential Function/Major Responsibilities: Provide basic husbandry for in-custody animals per SICSA animal care and disease management protocols. This includes feeding, walking dogs, cleaning cat litter boxes, and cleaning and disinfecting kennels and supplies. Carry out designated health care programs for specific animals as directed by the staff veterinarians and Animal Care and Behavioral Manager. Provide regular feedback to the Animal Care and Behavioral Manager and staff veterinarians regarding changes in animal health and behavior. Provide appropriate environmental enrichment for all animals onsite as directed by the Animal Care and Behavioral Manager to ensure the emotional and mental well-being of our animals, which will enhance their adoptability. Carry out designated behavior modification programs as directed by the Animal Care and Behavioral Manager. Provide support for volunteers working with SICSA animals. Assist the public during open hours. Other duties as assigned. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Must possess required knowledge, skills, abilities, and experience, and be able to explain and demonstrate, with or without reasonable accommodations, that the essential functions of the job can be performed. Dependability and ability to follow instructions; Have interest in and/or general knowledge of animal care, welfare, and behavior; Ability to understand and accept the reality of euthanizing animals when necessary; Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with staff and volunteers; Ability to take a teamwork approach to the job by cooperating with others, offering to help others when needed, and considering larger organization or team goals rather than individual concerns; Willingness to adapt to and remain calm in a constantly-changing and stressful work environment; Unwavering compassion for helping animals in need Minimum Qualifications/Licenses Required: High school diploma Valid Ohio driver’s license Physical Requirements/Work Environment: Ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, climb, and manipulate (lift, carry, and move) up to 50 pounds. Ability to be around animals of varying sizes and temperament in, occasionally, noisy environments.
