Work Schedule/Hours: Part-time position with a maximum of 29 hours per week, for a total of 1450 hours during the twelve-month period of May 1 through April 30; Hours will be determined between Monday-Friday, 9 am-5 pm; Flexible hours (during the time frame 7 am-10 pm) during final exams; Ability to work early morning, evenings, and/or weekends on occasion.

About the Position:
George Mason University, Disability Services, within University Life, invites applications for a Part-Time Access Consultant, responsible for disability services coordination at the Fairfax, Va., campus. The Part-Time Access Consultant reports to the Associate Director of Disability Services. The Part-time Access Consultant provides case management to students and determines reasonable and appropriate accommodations and services to which the students are entitled to, under the ADA and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act.
Responsibilities:
• Facilitates access to courses, programs, services, activities, and facilities for students with disabilities;
• Works collaboratively to develop and implement best practices in promoting inclusive design, determining and providing reasonable accommodations, and assessing the efficacy of accommodations;
• Applies independent judgment and expertise;
• Engage with students, faculty, and administrators across campus to improve the accessibility of the campus through the delivery of programs and services to reframe disability and promote inclusive design;
• Participates in outreach events (i.e., table fairs);
• Provides support and case management to students with disabilities, as specified by the mandates for Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, the Americans with Disabilities Amendments Act (ADAA) of 2008, and state and university policies;
• Works collaboratively with the Disability Services specialists to review and interpret confidential medical and psychological evaluations in order to determine eligibility for services and appropriate accommodations;
• Develops, monitors, adjusts, and evaluates individual academic accommodations for students;
• Consults with healthcare providers, family members, and advocates;
• Collaborates with faculty and university stakeholders across the campus community;
• Provides ongoing student case management, follow-up, and support of accommodations both in and out of the classroom, as well as related faculty support and advocacy;
• Maintains confidential student files, records, and correspondence; and
• Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
• Experience (one to two years is preferred) working with students who have disabilities and/or reading/interpreting psychoeducational, neuropsychological, and other assessment-based reports;
• Ability to monitor extensive details while focusing on the overall program mission; and
• Experience in a college/post-secondary institution as a student or employee.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience working with individuals with psychological, physical (visible and invisible), sensory impairments, medical conditions, learning disorders, attention deficit disorder/attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, and/or other conditions;
• Experience documenting written decisions and case progress; and
• Working knowledge of Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, the ADAA of 2008, the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), and other appropriate laws.
