Glacier Bay National Park and Preserve is accepting applications for one, permanent career-seasonal, full-time, Custodial Worker (MVO), WG-3566-04 position.

APPOINTMENT INFORMATION: Permanent, full-time. Employees can be converted to the competitive service after two years of satisfactory service in the same appointment, and upon meeting all regulatory requirements. Competitive service enables employees to compete for other career opportunities through announcements that are open to current permanent career or career conditional Federal employees.
This position has a career seasonal work schedule that provides for at least 26 weeks of full-time work, and up to 26 weeks of non-duty/non-pay time, per year. The work season is expected to be approximately end of November through early November of the following year. It is possible that work time can be extended depending on budget, workload, weather, or for other reasons. When your services are not required, you will be placed in non-pay, non-duty status. You will have the option to continue your health coverage while in non-pay.

DUTIES: You will work as a Custodial Worker (MVO), WG-3566-04 at Glacier Bay National Park and Preserve. Duties include but are not limited to the following:
• Incumbent will keep buildings and property in clean orderly conditions throughout the working season. Routine maintenance occasionally requires using variety of equipment such as: powered scrubbers and buffers as well as manual use tools such as brooms, mops, hand scrubbers. Subject to use of chemicals for cleaning and maintenance of building and properties. Incumbent will need to operate a carpet cleaning machine.
• Building fixtures and furniture will be maintained. This may include: moving different items such as furniture and scaffolding from one location to another, cleaning and replacing various items such as flooring, walls and ceiling surfaces. Must maintain a clean and clear workspace. Ladders, scaffolds and other equipment will also be available for use in this position. Incumbent will need to be able to reach overhead to change light bulbs and 48” LED light tubes.
• Moving heavy items such as furniture and boxes, crates, parts for use in several different locations. Removal of trash from offices, restrooms, public areas will also be required. Occasional assistance to maintenance of grounds, roads and/or trails may be required.
• Incumbent will also have the use of a light government vehicles (such as pick-up trucks, panel trucks, flatbed trucks, etc.) to perform the duties and occasional transportation of personnel, equipment to and from work sites within the park.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Moderately heavy physical effort is required when: using ladder and scaffolds to clean walls, ceilings, windows, ceiling fixtures, etc.; operating powered equipment; removing cans of or other containers of trash; and occasionally lifts objects weighing over 50 pounds.
WORK CONDITIONS: Usually works indoors in areas, which normally have adequate, heat, light, and ventilation. Is exposed to vibration from heavy equipment and to skin irritations from strong cleaning solutions used in stripping floors, etc. Care is required to avoid serious injuries when working on ladders and scaffolds and when using heavy powered equipment. Occasionally works outdoors in possible inclement weather conditions and/or extreme temperatures.
WHO MAY APPLY: Any U.S. citizen who has acquired special knowledge or expertise regarding the natural or cultural resources of Glacier Bay National Park and Preserve, by reason of having either lived or worked in or near the park. To be eligible, applicants must have lived or worked in or near the area long enough to encounter and become familiar with a full range of typical conditions that affect the work to be accomplished. Areas considered “near” Glacier Bay National Park and Preserve are Icy Bay on the north to Dixon Entrance on the south, Gustavus, Hoonah, Elfin Cove, Pelican, Excursion Inlet, Haines, Skagway, Juneau-Douglas-Auke Bay, Yakutat and Dry Bay.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS: Requirements will be determined by evaluating experience in your resume and /or in the interview and selection process. Knowledge or expertise concerning the park's or preserve's natural and/or cultural resources and the management thereof is required. Local knowledge of the resources and the typical conditions that affect the work to be accomplished will be applied in the performance of the duties. Following are six competencies identified for this position. • Must be able to use common cleaning tools, vacuum cleaners, and common hand and power tools.
• Ability to handle and control heavy powered equipment and to do minor maintenance on this equipment.
• Must be able to do all cleaning duties on his/her own without instruction. Must know the proper uses of a variety of special cleaning and sanitizing solutions and must be able to remove different kinds of stains from a wide variety of surfaces. In addition, must be able to clean and make adjustments to the powered cleaning equipment.
• Skill and knowledge in the operation of light duty motorized vehicles.
• Must have a valid state driver's license.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
• U.S. Citizenship required.
• Appointment subject to background investigation with favorable adjudication before starting work.
• Selectee will be required to participate in the Direct Deposit Electronic Funds Transfer Program.
• Selectee will be subject to a two-year trial (probationary) period.
• Must be 18 years of age or older.
• Males must meet Selective Service Registration Act requirement. Verify registration at sss.gov.
• Government housing is available.
• You will be required to operate a government motor vehicle as part of your official duties; a valid driver's license is required. After selection, you may be required to submit a GSA Form 3607 and driving record at your own expense.
• You will be required to wear a uniform and comply with the National Park Service uniform standards. A uniform allowance will be provided.
