As a MRC unit leader, you are responsible for ensuring that your unit continually meets the MRC registration criteria and remains an active and viable member of the national MRC network. This individual will lead the development, management, operation, and sustainability of the unit. This position will work up to 29 hours per week.
As a MRC Coordinator within the Northeast Health District at the Georgia Department of Public Health , you will join a dedicated group of public health professionals that help support the overall mission and vision of protecting lives of Georgian residents in a variety of ways.
Job Responsibilities
As a minimum, MRC unit leaders are expected to accomplish certain ongoing activities essential to the viability, effectiveness, and success of the MRC unit. These activities include:
• Updating the MRC unit’s profile on the MRC Program website at least quarterly (once every three months)
• Following guidelines for requesting and utilizing the MRC logo
• Developing plans for establishing, administering, and sustaining the unit
• Verifying the credentials of members with professional licenses and certifications
• Participating in public health, preparedness, and emergency response activities consistent with the unit’s mission
• Developing and enhancing partnerships and affiliations with local and community stakeholders
• Active participation in the MRC network at the local, state, regional, and national levels
Developing comprehensive plans and strategies to establish, operate, and sustain the MRC unit are essential responsibilities of the MRC unit leader. These plans and strategies should focus on the core elements of the MRC unit, including:
• Developing a mission, goals, and objectives for the MRC unit
• Developing a process for volunteer screening and verification of professional credentials
• Volunteer management, including recruitment, engagement, recognition, and retention of volunteers
• Developing an appropriate organizational structure (that allows for management and utilization of volunteers)
• Developing partnerships with local stakeholders, such as local government agencies and community groups
• Integrating the MRC unit into local and state plans for public health and emergency response
• Developing a volunteer training program that includes ICS and NIMS, and incorporates the MRC Core Competencies
• Developing procedures for volunteer activation, utilization, and deactivation
• Developing and implementing plans and strategies for sustaining the MRC unit
• Evaluating the effectiveness of MRC unit programs and activities, and the performance of MRC volunteers
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in a related field from an accredited college or university AND One year of related experience
OR
Completion of an apprenticeship/internship that sufficiently supplied experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position OR any other combination of education and professional experience that provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the job.
