Furman has been accredited by the National Association of Schools of Music (NASM) since 1937. The Department of Music’s faculty – comprised of approximately 19 full-time and 21 part-time performing artists and scholars – and its staff are committed to providing a stimulating and creative educational environment for its approximately 150 music majors and 100 non-major participants.ResponsibilitiesTeach an undergraduate oboe studio ranging in size from 4-8 students, with weekly lessons of 30-60 minutes, a studio class, and instruction on reed-making.  Attend woodwind juries at the end of each semester, recital hearings, auditions, and degree recitalsRecruit and maintain an outstanding studio of oboe students and majorsIdeally, the selected candidate would also be available to teach MUS 101 – Introduction to Music in one or both semestersQualificationsBachelor’s degree in music required; masters or doctorate preferredThe ability to work with historically underrepresented students, including students of color, and be committed to assisting the university in its continuing efforts to become a model of inclusive excellenceEvidence of high quality, creative activity in music performanceEvidence of excellence in undergraduate teaching, success in student recruiting, and a record of significant professional activity are preferredApplicationTo apply, upload the following in a single PDF document.
