Director of Equipment (including Fleet) & Facilities Operations
About us
New River Electrical Corp specializes in substation construction and maintenance, overhead transmission and distribution, underground distribution, underground high voltage transmission, industrial division, instrumentation, and storm restoration. With offices in Virginia and Ohio, New River Electrical is a fully diversified company serving the needs of customers in the Mid-West, Mid-Atlantic, and nationally on large specialty and design/build work.
Position Summary
New River Electrical is searching for an accomplished Director of Equipment & Facilities Operations, driven by a passion for efficiency and excellence. The ideal candidate will bring a strategic mindset, technical expertise, and strong leadership skills to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of our operations at New River Electrical. As the Director, you will oversee the comprehensive management of our fleet, tools, and facilities, ensuring seamless operations across our organization. Reporting to the Senior Vice President of Finance & Administration, this pivotal role requires a dynamic individual ready to drive innovation and maintain the highest standards of performance. This position will be based out of either our headquarters in the greater Roanoke, VA area or our regional headquarters in Granville, OH.
Duties/Responsibilities
Equipment responsibilities:
• Strategically oversee profit and loss, working closely with the leadership team to identify areas in which improvements can be made in all areas of equipment operations.
• Lead a team of professionals to ensure the highest standards of safety, performance, and reliability in equipment operations, including fleet, tools, and consumables. Directly manage the Fleet & Equipment Purchasing Manager and the Construction Support and Facilities Manager.
• Develop and manage budgets for fleet division of approximately $70-80M, including light and heavy-duty trucks, aerial, heavy material handling, access, and other specialty equipment.
• Develop and manage budgets for tools division of approximately $20-25M, including small tools and consumables.
• Formulate and execute a balanced capital asset acquisition budget annually, with Board-level approval, organization-wide.
• Cultivate strong vendor relationships spanning multiple states to optimize fleet asset procurement, rental, maintenance, and uptime.
• Develop, organize, and continually evaluate all national strategic account initiatives, enhancing fleet investments through discount structures.
• Manage contract negotiations with suppliers to secure favorable terms and ensure adherence to agreements.
• Implement control mechanisms to meet internal service levels and operational performance goals are met within prescribed cost, revenue, and profit parameters.
• Continually update and set internal equipment rate schedules based upon utilization, depreciation, life cycle, maintenance costs, and market considerations that best allow the Company to be accurate, competitive, and successful in bidding and securing job-based revenues.
• Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and industry standards related to fleet operations.
• Monitor supplier performance to ensure contractual obligations are met consistently.
• Formulate life cycle goals across fleet operations to best serve the needs of the company while retaining a focus on the ROI of each asset and de-fleeting assets adhering to best practices and ensuring optimal returns.
• Ensure all over the road assets are properly tagged, titled, and EPA/DOT compliant and all off road assets meet all industry standards and job associated safety standards.
• Annually evaluate and reset all company equipment insurable values prior to submission.
• Collaborate with the CFO, Risk Management, and Safety department on all accidents involving fleet assets for insurance claims and settlements while spearheading the timely repair or replacement of the asset(s).
• Cultivate a culture of continuous improvement, innovation, and safety within the team.
Facilities responsibilities:
• Responsible for overseeing the operation, maintenance, and managerial oversight of facilities in Granville, OH, and Cloverdale, VA, ensuring that all services are effectively delivered and building needs are met including custodial, security, and general and preventative maintenance.
• Responsible for the planning, coordination, and control of building and renovation construction projects from inception to completion.
• Supervise the hiring and work of associated contractors, effectively managing the budget and overseeing the life cycle for multiple concurrent projects while keeping stakeholders apprised, ensure the safety of all involved parties, and maintain the facilities plan with a strategic outlook.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to forecast facility needs, ensuring alignment with project timelines and business objectives.
• Oversee the development, preparation, and explanation of the annual facility budget.
• Advise C-Suite leadership on operational improvement goals and activities.
• Identify and develop relationships with new customers.
Qualifications
• Associate’s degree required, Bachelor’s degree preferred.
• 5-10 years of professional experience in operations support or related position.
• Experience in construction or utility industry is mandatory.
• Certified Equipment Manager, CEM, preferred.
• Knowledgeable of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration’s rules and regulations.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to make strategic decisions.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across departments.
• Proven track record of successfully leading and developing high-performance teams.
• Must exhibit a high level of organizational acumen, with the ability to create and maintain streamlined organizational systems.
• Must demonstrate proficiency in MS Office, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and preferably Vista Viewpoint.
• Strong ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver results within set time constraints.
• Proven track record of managing confidential information discreetly and responsibly.
• Must exhibit unwavering ethical standards. B.S. degree in engineering, construction management, business administration with
