Procurement Specialist Location: Roanoke, VA, 24013
Founded in 1979, Chemsolv, Inc , based in Roanoke, Virginia, is well established as one of the largest chemical distributors in the United States. The company has branch facilities in Colonial Heights, Virginia; Piney Flats, Tennessee; and Rock Hill, South Carolina. Chemsolv, Inc. has consistently been ranked in the Top 100 Chemical Distributors as published by Purchasing Magazine. Chemsolv represents over 100 manufacturers of industrial chemicals, silicones, solvents, lubricants, metalworking fluids, and other specialty products, all of which are supported by a commitment to continuous improvement in its operating practices. The company is a member of the National Association of Chemical Distributors, which administers Responsible Distribution. Chemsolv, Inc. operates a sizable fleet of delivery trucks including box trailers and tankers.
In 2023, with support from OpenGate Capital , we formed Integrity Partners Group (IPG) together with Chemisphere , a Midwest chemical distributor based in St. Louis, Missouri, and Eden Custom Processing in Eden North Carolina. Our goal is to continue giving our customers the personal attention they deserve while growing our capabilities and portfolio through IPG .
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Procurement Specialist to join our team in Roanoke, VA. The successful candidate will be responsible for assisting with the procurement process, inventory management, and replenishment of inventory for the organization, ensuring that all goods and services are acquired through our key suppliers at the best possible price and quality.
Qualifications :
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Successfully manages and works within all purchasing networks to execute the materials requirements planning function.
• Proactively manages purchasing to ensure product availability and material flow; determines if inventory quantities are sufficient for needs, ordering more materials when necessary.
• Verifies nomenclature and specifications of purchase requests.
• Responsible for resolution of advanced and/or non-routine purchase order discrepancies; may interact with Accounting, Production, or suppliers for resolution.
• Works with Customer Care and Production as they respond to customer and supplier inquiries about order status, changes, or cancellations.
• Analyzes daily reports and takes appropriate action to prevent service failure.
• Processes corrective action requests as needed.
• Ensures proper system documentation is accurate and completed.
• Interacts with suppliers to schedule delivery times and resolve shipping errors.
• Evaluate suppliers by considering price, quality, availability, and other purchasing criteria.
• Familiarity of the chemical industry and freight logistics is a plus (railcars, tanker trucks and trucking vendors).
• Verifies bills from suppliers with bids and purchase orders and approve bills for payment.
• Classifies priority regulations.
• Other duties as assigned.
Education and/or Experience:
• Associate Degree or better in business related field, or 1 year’s industry experience minimum.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite of products and the ability to use business system software (Chempax).
• Proven customer service skills required.
• Thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of purchasing, preferably in the distribution industry.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Experience working in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.
• Demonstrated ability to multi-task, problem solve and prioritize.
• Strong attention to detail with the ability to keep accurate records.
