Description
The Department of Religion at Washington and Lee University invites applications for a one-year Visiting Assistant Professor. We seek a broadly trained scholar of religion who specializes in Religion in America. In addition to ability to teach an introductory course on Religion in America, expertise in some combination of the following is desired: Native American Religions or religious traditions/movements, African American Religions, African Diaspora religious traditions, history of evangelicalism. Methodology engaging sociological or anthropological analysis is desirable. High priority will be given to evidence of commitment to and proven excellence in teaching.
This position carries a 6-course teaching load distributed over Fall and Winter terms (12 weeks each), and the University’s signature 4-week Spring Term. Courses will include one section of an introductory course on religion in America and five courses in one’s specialty as may meet departmental needs.

Qualifications
Preferred candidates will hold a Ph.D. or have ABD status in Religion/Religious Studies by time of the appointment, July 1, 2024.
