Description
The English Department of Washington and Lee University (W&L) invites applications for a visiting assistant professorship in Creative Writing, with a focus on Creative Nonfiction, starting in July 2024. This is a one-year position with the possibility of a renewal for a second year. While a focus on Creative Nonfiction is preferred, other genre interests and literary specialties are welcome. Responsibilities include teaching creative writing workshops, first year writing, and literature courses, for a total of six courses per year across three terms (two 12-week terms in Fall and Winter and W&L’s distinctive 4-week Spring term). Opportunities, if desired, to work on the international literary magazine Shenandoah, w hich is edited by a member of the English Department.
W&L is a highly selective, independent, co-educational, liberal arts college of approximately 1850 undergraduate and 400 law students and located in Lexington, VA, three hours southwest of Washington, DC. W&L is consistently ranked among the top national liberal arts colleges. Established in 1749, it is the ninth oldest institution of higher learning in the nation.

Qualifications
An MFA, PhD, or ABD status at the time of appointment is required.
