Job Description
The Roanoke County School Board seeks applications from persons interested in administrative positions of Elementary Principal effective July 1, 2024.
Job Description and Major Responsibilities:
The Elementary Principal is responsible for providing effective instructional leadership and is accountable for the administration and supervision of the elementary school and its programs. Major responsibilities include the supervision of the educational program, evaluation of professional and support staff, supervision of facility maintenance and management, oversee and maintain fiscal management activities, and develop effective community relations.
Essential Job Functions:
Lead in the development, implementation, and communication of educational goals consistent with State and Federal guidelines.
1. Provide strong and positive educational leadership by organizing, developing and administering the instructional program designed to meet the needs of elementary school students.
2. Utilize data to identify areas of strength and areas of growth and effectively communicate this information to staff for curriculum goal setting and school planning.
3. Provide leadership in developing the necessary climate for change and growth within the school.
4. Supervise teaching staff and programs in accordance with building and district philosophy.
5. Ensure the development and implementation of 21stCentury skills as defined in the district comprehensive plan.
6. Assist in the selection, assignment, orientation and evaluation of all personnel for whom she/he has supervisory responsibility.
7. Provide for effective and efficient day-to-day operation of school facilities that are conducive to a positive learning environment.
8. Oversee custodial, cafeteria operations and other support services to maintain an efficient, clean, safe, attractive, and functional facility.
9. Demonstrate effective organizational skills and complete duties promptly and accurately.
10. Establish and maintain effective discipline in the school and promote a positive school climate.
11. Demonstrate knowledge of finance and budget within the specific area(s) of authority and discharge the responsibility for making expenditures in accordance with the operational philosophy of the Roanoke County School Board.
Other Responsibilities:
1. Inform appropriate central office personnel of identified problems, progress, and plans in the building as they occur.
2. Support and participate in parent/community activities.
3. Provide an orientation program for new staff members.
4. Participate in developing building goals according to the educational goals of Roanoke County Public Schools.
5. Other duties as assigned by the superintendent.
Additional Information
Qualifications: * Minimum of five (5) years of teaching experience. * Postgraduate Professional Certificate with endorsement in Administration and Supervision PreK-12. * Endorsement must be on record before applying * Effective leadership skills and experiences. * Proven background in instruction, assessment, and professional development. * SLLA scores must be on file in Human Resources Application Procedure: * Emails and faxed letters/resumes will not be accepted. * Pay is based on the RCPS Pay Plan * Length of contract - 12 months
Compensation and Hours
Salary Range: $81,973.00 - $131,123.00 Year Benefits Provided: Not Available Other Benefits: Not Available
