UC Health is hiring an Infusion Pharmacy Technician in our infusion pharmacy department at the Barrett Cancer Center, Blood Cancer Healing Center.
Infusion pharmacy technicians work collaboratively within the UC Medical Center infusion centers dedicated to providing comprehensive care to patients with cancer and other infusion medication needs. Infusion pharmacy technicians perform hazardous and non-hazardous sterile compounding through best practices and support of compounding technology. Infusion pharmacy technicians are essential members of the collective interprofessional infusion teams.

Responsibilities:
PATIENT POPULATION - (CLINICAL ONLY):
◾ Engages in population appropriate communication.
◾ Has knowledge of growth and development milestones and tasks.
◾ Gives clear instructions to patients/family regarding treatment.
◾ Involves family/guardian in the assessment, initial treatment and continuing care of the patient.
◾ Identifies any physical limitations of the patient and deploys intervention when necessary.
◾ Recognizes and responds appropriately to patients/families with behavioral health problems.
◾ Interprets population related data and plans care appropriately.
◾ Identifies and responds appropriately to different needs resulting from, unique psychological needs or those associated with religious / cultural norms. Performs treatments, administers medication or operates equipment safely.
◾ Recognizes and responds to signs/symptoms of abuse or neglect.
Procures and distributes medication orders per prescriber request, pharmacist request, or prearranged work assignment according to established policies, procedures, and protocols:
●   Accepts new written, faxed or electronic prescription orders from a prescriber or a prescriber's agent
●   Enters information into and retrieves information from a database or patient profile
●   Prepares and affixes medication labels
●   Counts and pours dangerous drugs into containers prior to dispensing by a pharmacist
●   Prepares non-sterile compounds
●   Replenishes medications in automated dispensing cabinets, medication carts, medication kits, emergency drug containers and floor stock areas accurately
●   Prepares intravenous admixtures and other sterile preparations (including chemotherapy and parenteral nutrition) safely and accurately using appropriate techniques
●   Delivers medications and supplies to patient care and ancillary areas accurately per established schedule
Maintains adequate stock of medications and supplies according to established policies and procedures:
●   Assists in ordering, receiving, unpacking, and storing medications and supplies in appropriate locations
●   Rotates stock to ensure use before expiration
●   Identifies and replaces outdated and unusable medications
●   Restocks medication and IV dispensing areas accurately within specified time periods
●   Repackages bulk medications in unit-dose packages safely and accurately per established procedures using appropriate techniques
Contributes to the effective operation of the department:
●   Identifies opportunities and serves as a leader in their area of expertise with little supervision and guidance.
●   Assists pharmacy leadership in development of materials and orientation of new associates
●   Picks up orders, requisitions, and medications for return from patient care areas when on delivery rounds
●   Enters medication orders into pharmacy computer system accurately (if applicable)
●   Enters charges and credits for patient medications accurately
●   Generates reports, pick lists, and labels as required
●   Answers the telephone, identifying self and department; directs calls to appropriate personnel
●   Answers requests at the window/door and makes Stat deliveries to patient care and ancillary areas when requested
●   Organizes and prioritizes work assignments
●   Maintains logs, records, and other required documentation accurately; files documentation in appropriate locations
●   Demonstrates good oral and written communication
●   Keeps pharmacy areas clean, neat, and well-organized; keeps pharmacy equipment clean
Participates in the quality improvement activities of the department:
●   Completes and documents all assigned medication storage area inspections at least monthly; identifies and replaces outdated and unusable medications
●   Collects data, conducts quality monitors, and completes documentation as assigned
●   Organizes and maintains responsibility for an identified quality improvement project for the department.
●   Presents annual update for project responsibilities.
Meets hospital and department standards of performance:
●   Maintains a neat, professional, and well-groomed appearance; observes pharmacy dress code; wears identification badge at all times
●   Performs work within specified time frames; adapts positively to frequent interruptions and changes in workload and/or work schedule
●   Works cooperatively with all staff members; voices concerns and suggestions to appropriate to appropriate persons in a positive manner
●   Fosters a team environment by providing orientation and training to new team members; assists coworkers in tasks, as time permits
Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor:
●   Seeks opportunity to continue to advance pharmacy technician practice
●   Completes special projects and has a leadership role in assigned committees
●   Has demonstrated competency in all areas of pharmacy within the hospital
●   Seeks out opportunities to decrease cost in the department
Qualifications:
Education: Minimum Required: High School Diploma, GED Equivalent Preferred Degree: Associate degree
License and Certification:
• Current pharmacy technician registration by the Ohio State Board of Pharmacy.
• Current certified technician certificate (approved by Ohio BOP)
• Certified Compounded Sterile Preparation Technician (CSPT) Certification must be obtained within one (1) year of hire/transfer
• Registration and certification throughout their employment with the UC Health Pharmacy Department.
Years of Experience: Minimum Required: 3 years equivalent experience. Preferred: 5 Years equivalent experience
Required Skills and Knowledge: Ability to work independently with minimal direct supervision; work cooperatively with health-system and pharmacy staff; handle frequent interruptions and adapt to changes in workload and work schedule; set priorities, make critical decisions, and respond quickly to emergent requests; exercise sound professional judgment; communicate effectively (orally and in writing); and meet the pharmaceutical care needs of the patient populations served by UC Health.
