DOMESTIC VIOLENCE ASSOCIATION OF CENTRAL KANSAS JOB DESCRIPTION ECONOMIC ADVOCATE QUALIFICATIONS: Must be able: To work in a non‑judgmental manner with individuals of all races, ages and economic levels who are in crisis situations; To handle emergency situations which necessitate immediate decisions; To work effectively in a stressful environment; To work as a team player with other staff. Must have: Ability and experience to facilitate support groups; Familiarity with community resources, particularly 24‑hour services; Sense of dedication to DVACK and its purpose; Initiative, integrity and strong sense of professionalism; Ability to have empathy and be a good listener; A dedicated interest in issues affecting women; Excellent organizational skills and be self‑motivated; Ability to work with individuals of diverse backgrounds as volunteers for DVACK. REQUIREMENTS: A bachelor’s degree in social work, psychology, counseling or other related field is preferred. Must have ability to develop and facilitate training sessions for volunteers. Must demonstrate the ability to work in a positive, client-centered atmosphere and uphold a supportive, flexible work environment. Must be highly organized and have excellent oral and written communication skills. Must have automobile in good working condition and valid Kansas driver's license. RESPONSIBILITIES: Provide adult shelter residents with economic advocacy and employment services including but not limited to: create/update resumes, assist with job search and interviewing techniques, conduct 30-minute mock job interviews, facilitate budget workshops, provide information on banking options, workplace safety, and assist in identifying and accessing referrals to community resources. Work with shelter clients on a daily basis. Provide direct service assistance to victims, as needed, in order to secure employment, including job training. Facilitate weekly economic advocacy and employment services support groups. Intake and short-term crisis intervention with clients, presenting options and alternatives to clients; provide factual information regarding domestic violence and sexual assault; provide information and appropriately refer clients to other available community resources; respond to client' feelings. Act as an advocate for DVACK clients providing emotional support while client receives services from law enforcement, medical, social service organizations, court advocacy and transportation when necessary. Other duties as assigned by the CEO. WORK HOURS: This is a part-time, hourly position. Basic work schedule will be set by the CEO. M-F 12 Hours per week between the hours of 8A-5P with occasional after hours. ACCOUNTABILITY: You will be directly accountable to the DV & Elder Abuse Program Manager.
