General Information
The Hitachi Energy factory in Bland, VA has an immediate opening for experienced Site Engineering Manager. The focus of this position will be the direct, and active management of a muti-disciplined design team. Candidate will provide direction, leadership, and coordination of the engineering function across the factory for the purpose of dry type transformer design and production. Candidate will ensure team compliance with all relevant statutory and regulatory requirements. Application of your technical expertise and leadership is expected to engage and advance product and process improvement for all products within the site’s business scope. This position will require Global Product Group collaboration to define and implement best design practices and common tools. The candidate will also work directly with local growth, product development and production teams to penetrate new markets with highly optimized customer solutions. Candidate will have direct electrical design team responsibility. Candidate will manage the mechanical teams thru second level manager. Candidate will be responsible for talent pipeline development.
Candidate will drive the performance of the engineering function to ensure that all engineering activities meet the required safety, integrity, financial and contractual requirements. This will include initiating and driving continuous improvement activities across the function. The Site Engineering Manager will report directly to the Bland Plant Manager.
Your Responsibilities
• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering and 5-10 years of experience, with additional 3-5 years of experience in a leadership role.
• Sound people skills that build effective team environments where individuals work collaboratively to achieve a well-defined strategy.
• Possess a client-driven mentality that fosters strong customer relationships and long-term commitments.
• Solid organizational and communication skills; the ideal candidate will be detail-oriented so that designs, design algorithms and test data are thoroughly documented, and design requirements coordinated with all relevant disciplines.
• Proficiency in fundamental business tools such as Microsoft Suite applications and related business and engineering software applications (CAD/AUTOCAD, SolidWorks, CREO, Visio, Excel, PowerPoint, Adobe, etc.)
• Proficiency in problem solving (Root Cause Countermeasures, A3s, 8Ds, or equivalent.)
• The ability to quickly learn and apply site design tools.
• The ability to prioritize responsibilities and work independently.
• Generate weekly and monthly assessments for team productivity performance tracking.
• Elevate site design team through effective hiring, development, training, apprenticeships, internships, etc.
• Must be highly motivated, disciplined, and able to effectively assist, and at times, lead cross-functional teams to accomplish clearly defined goals and objectives that directly contribute to profitable growth in the organization.
• Create and manage implementation of long-term strategic plans which define the engineering business strategy and align resources accordingly.

Your Background
• Engineering experience with VSD, Low Voltage (600V Class), Rectifier Duty and/or Traction transformers.
• Candidate must already have work authorization that would permit them to work for Hitachi Energy in the United States.
• Experience with Design and Process FMEA’s.
• Minimum 5-10 years dry type transformer design experience preferred
• Six Sigma Trained/Certified.
• Working knowledge of industry standards such as ANSI/IEEE C57.12.01, C57.12.51, C57.12.55, C57.12.90, C57.12.91, C57.96, C57.94, NFPA 70/National Electrical Code, UL, cUL, CSA and IEC.
• Experience working in multinational teams.
• Experience with mechanical and/or electrical simulations.
• Registered Professional Engineer.
• Lean Manufacturing training and implementation experience.
