Job Summary
This position is responsible to lead departmental teams, streamline communications, and unite people across the organization towards the bank's strategic vision. The COO is responsible for First National Bank Minnesota's operations, ensuring the efficiency necessary to support the bank's long term business objectives. The position reports directly to the President/CEO and supports the organization by serving as the chief liaison between the President/CEO and other operational departments. This role will require a detailed understanding of measurements and metrics used to drive a successful and scalable, technology focused, customer experience organization, and an ability to engage and elevate teams to new levels of performance.
Independent Commercial Bank leadership and experience is an absolute prerequisite for this position.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Supervisory Responsibilities :
• Oversee multiple departments such as Retail Deposit and Bank Operations, Marketing, Information Systems, Compliance, Internal Audit, Security, Branch Coordination and Human Resources (with the assistance of the CEO)
• Responsible for directing and coordinating the activities of various operational departments in support of goals, culture, core values, and objectives established by Executive Management through the use of the Entrepreneurial Operating System (EOS).
• Examine current business processes and make necessary changes to ensure policies and procedures are in place, and all deliverables are met.
• Advises President/CEO on best practices, ensures internal controls are in place, and develops appropriate policies.
• Creates the structure and processes necessary to manage current operational activities and projected growth, building efficiencies where appropriate.
• Develops and implements procedures and controls to ensure security, accountability, and accurate information flow within the organization.
• Acts as company liaison with core bank system processor.
• Carries out supervisory responsibilities, including interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work and appraising performance; addressing complaints; and resolving problems.
• Provides expert analysis, evaluation, and application of regulations.
Key Activities:
• Directs efficient and effective use of Bank Operations personnel over several operational departments.
• Serves as the executive manager and liaison responsible for Retail Operations, Organizational Transformation, Human Resources, and Marketing departments.
• Reports capacity and expansion requirements to management to avoid unscheduled upgrades or reduced service levels. Implements changes with existing systems, procedures, and resources to improve efficiency.
• Develops and assists in implementing enhanced procedures to increase departmental efficiency.
• Works closely with Bank staff managers to understand user problems; recommends enhanced procedures, training, etc., to increase productivity.
• Works closely with management to enhance bank operations services and ensure the direction aligns with the company's strategic goals.
• Ensures maintaining a clean, safe, and efficient working environment for all Bank personnel.
• Assisted in developing and maintaining contingency plans to ensure backup capabilities were available and implemented without undue disruption of customer services.
• Serves as a member of the Bank Operations Disaster Recovery Team.
• Drive company results from an operational perspective, working closely with the President/CEO, CFO, and other executive leadership team members.
• Serves as a subject-matter expert, handling inquiries, developing action plans, and troubleshooting operational issues.
Decision Making Responsibilities:
• Leads the Operations Division of the Bank. With the assistance of HR, manages all aspects of personnel either directly or indirectly. Works closely with the President/CEO to ensure each Operational Department’s direction supports the company's strategic goals. Responsible for ensuring security measures are in place and contingency plans are developed.
Job Skills and Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree required; Master’s degree preferred.
• Must have a minimum of 10 years of senior management level experience.
• Ability to respond to common inquiries from external clients, regulatory agencies, and employees.
• Advanced knowledge of related state and federal banking compliance regulations and other Bank operational policies.
• Intermediate to advanced computer terminal and computer operation skills, including Office 365 and common core banking and ancillary systems.
• Advanced math skills
• Excellent verbal, written, interpersonal, communication, and relationship-building skills.
• Ability to deal with situations involving multiple facets and variables in non-standardized cases.
• Strong organizational and time management skills.
• Must have effective leadership and administrative abilities.
• Must know the community and its financial needs, economic and competitive environment, Federal monetary system, and all Federal and State banking regulations.
• Must have analytical, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.
• Balance multiple tasks and projects simultaneously within a limited time frame.
• Be obliged to instruct, assign new work, maintain standards, allocate personnel, review work, coordinate activities, plan work for others, and act on employee problems.
• Should have a well-developed consultative approach - including the ability to lead complex business initiatives and collaboratively partner with all levels.
• Must have a strong appreciation for culture in a value-driven organization utilizing the EOS format and concepts throughout the organization.
• Must be a systems thinker, able to thrive in an environment of ambiguity while guiding stakeholders through a shared decision-making process, reconciling disparate perspectives to develop cohesive strategies.
• Travel between First National Bank Minnesota offices will be required.
• Attendance at and travel to/from approved Industry, Bank Trade group, and community events and conferences, including training opportunities, will be expected.
• Must be able to pass background screenings.
