Under close supervision, responsible for the activities of orientation and coordination of various occupational safety and health activities as well as daily inspections in the plant and administrative areas.
Job Summary: The Safety Manager is responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing safety programs and policies within the automotive manufacturing facility. This role ensures compliance with local, state, and federal safety regulations while promoting a culture of safety awareness and continuous improvement. The Safety Manager collaborates with cross-functional teams to minimize risks and incidents, and conducts training sessions to educate employees on safety procedures.
Key Responsibilities:
Safety Program Development and Implementation:
• Develop, implement, and manage comprehensive safety programs and policies tailored to the automotive manufacturing environment.
• Conduct risk assessments and safety audits to identify potential hazards and develop appropriate controls.
Regulatory Compliance:
• Stay updated on local, state, and federal safety regulations and ensure the facility remains in compliance with all applicable laws and standards.
• Interface with regulatory agencies and conduct internal audits to assess compliance.
Incident Management and Investigation:
• Oversee the investigation of accidents, near misses, and incidents, and identify root causes.
• Implement corrective and preventive actions to prevent future occurrences.
Safety Training and Education:
• Develop and deliver safety training programs for employees, including new hire orientations, ongoing training, and specialized training for high-risk tasks.
• Ensure that all employees understand and follow established safety procedures.
Emergency Preparedness:
• Develop and maintain emergency response plans and conduct drills to ensure preparedness for various types of emergencies.
• Collaborate with relevant departments to establish effective communication channels during emergencies.
Safety Data Analysis and Reporting:
• Monitor and analyze safety data, including incident reports, near misses, and other relevant metrics.
• Prepare and present regular safety reports to management, highlighting trends and areas for improvement.
Safety Committee Coordination:
• Lead or participate in safety committee meetings to discuss safety concerns, propose solutions, and promote safety awareness.
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Management:
• Ensure the availability and proper use of PPE for all employees.
• Conduct periodic assessments to verify the effectiveness of PPE.
Continuous Improvement:
• Identify opportunities for safety process improvements and efficiency gains.
• Implement best practices and benchmark against industry standards.
Vendor and Contractor Safety Management:
• Evaluate and monitor safety practices of vendors and contractors working on-site.
• Ensure compliance with safety requirements for external parties.
Qualifications:
• Professional certification in safety management (e.g., CSP, CIH)
• OSHA 30 Hour required, with Train-the-Trainer endorsement
• Relevant degree from an accredited college/university
• 3+ years of experience in safety management within an automotive manufacturing or similar industrial setting.
• Strong knowledge of local, state, and federal safety regulations.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Proficient in safety management software and tools.
• Ability to lead and motivate cross-functional teams.
