GENERAL STATEMENT OF JOB
Under the direction of the Director of Payroll, the Payroll Specialist is responsible for establishing and maintaining a positive working environment with school personnel and outside agencies relating to payroll and benefits functions. This position performs skilled clerical work involving preparing and maintaining financial records to pay employees effectively and accurately.  Work is performed under regular supervision.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

• Provide internal and external customer service and support
• Process semi-monthly payroll for 2000+ employees
• Process manual checks, voids, and payment reissue of employees
• Process payroll changes including new hire information, leave, deductions, transfers, and terminations
• Receive, record, review, and process timekeeping records
• Maintain deduction balancing including garnishment information
• Prepare tax balancing and other quarterly and year end computations
• Prepare vouchers and process electronic and check payments to third-parties and employees related to payroll
• Provide salary and leave verifications as requested
• Assist in compiling information as needed for reporting, outside requests, and auditing purposes
• Maintain department records and files
• Process internal payroll forms and review for completeness and accuracy
• Perform other duties as assigned
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Thorough knowledge of comprehensive payroll terminology, methods, and procedures; ability to understand and follow oral and written directions; ability to follow work procedures and to work independently; ability to post accounts and to perform mathematical computations with speed and accuracy; skill in the operation of a variety of office machines, software and data processing equipment, ability to utilize technology to support office functions, the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates and the general public, skills to communicate effectively both orally and in written form.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school, and at minimum two years of experience in employee communications, payroll/benefits administration, and bookkeeping experience.  Expert knowledge of personal computers and applications related to spreadsheets, word processing, data management, and analysis.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Work is typically performed in an office setting with occasional extended periods of time at computer terminals. Infrequent visits to off-site external trainings, schools and city locations are required. Normal payroll functions may require working hours beyond set hours and days. Frequent telephonic and occasional personal contact with Department Heads, Principals, Service Report Preparers, internal and external organizations at City and State levels, employees, and third-party vendors. WORK ENVIRONMENT
Primarily temperature-controlled and clean office environment. The worker is not subject to adverse environmental conditions.
Primary Location Payroll Salary Range $43,253.00 - $62,758.00 / Per Year Shift Type Full-Time
