Description The City of Roanoke is seeking two Maintenance workers that performs manual labor in the preparing, marking and maintaining of athletic fields and ball diamonds. Typical task include; but aren’t limited to, skilled turf maintenance, mowing, weed-eating, edging, leaf mulching, aerating, fertilizing and seeding. Must have knowledge of, experience and the ability to skillfully operate and do routine daily service and maintenance on a wide variety of mowers, field paint machines, and other equipment related to athletic field maintenance. Will provide logistical support to special events and athletic tournaments as needed. Possession of a valid Virginia driver’s license is required.

Typical Qualifications
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Operates dump truck loads and unloads general dirt, timber,  and other materials
Operates riding and push mowers cutting and trimming grass
Operates tar distributor and patches holes in streets
Operates chipper and cleans area of limbs
Operates truck, transports and works with crew engaged in semi-skilled repair maintenance and custodial activities
Performs the work of a laborer or semi-skilled laborer as assigned when not engaged as driver including rough carpentry and concrete work painting and related tasks
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); three to five years related experience and/or training in the operation of automotive equipment and the performance of heavy manual labor; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
