Salary/Wage Range: $15.81 - $20.42/hour (dependent on qualifications)

Under the direct supervision of the Recreation Manager, the Fitness Instructor will provide group fitness classes and personal training to promote healthy living that will provide our participants a supportive, motivated, and enthused fitness experience.

Essential Functions of the Job:
• Instructs and leads energizing, fun, safe, and educational Silver Sneakers classes.
• Develops and prepares high-quality routines.
• Promotes programs to members and participants.
• Engages in active listening and model relationship-building skills in all interactions with members, volunteers, guests, and staff members in order to build relationships and communicate our mission.
• Attends regularly scheduled work hours and outside regular hours as necessary.
• Effectively and respectfully communicates and interacts with other employees, supervisors, individuals from other organizations, and customers.
• Performs physical and mental demands and work environment requirements for this position.
• Assists in special events preparation.
• Performs other related functions as assigned or apparent to achieve the goals and objectives of the Recreation Department.

Requirements
Required Knowledge and Abilities:
• Working knowledge of wellness and trends to provide effective information and support to members.
• Ability to physically lead fitness classes.
Minimum Qualifications:
• Must be 18 years old.
• Must possess one of the following professional credentials:
• Nationally recognized fitness instructor/trainer certification.
• SilverSneakers instructor certification
Preferred Qualifications:
Basic knowledge, experience and/or interest in exercise and wellness.
Conditions of Employment:
• Current and/or ability to obtain fitness instructor certifications.
• Must satisfactorily pass a criminal background examination.
• Must comply with organizational and departmental policies.
Work Schedule:
Hours of work are during the week in the mornings and/or afternoon depending on class schedule and availability. Potential for evenings and weekends.

This position requires the employee to work alone, with others, around others and have contact with the public. This position will work inside. All mental and physical demands listed herein may not be conducted every day but may be conducted and not limited to 2-3 times per week. Activities that will occur continuously, up to 1-hour to a duration of 3 hours, are: use of right foot, left foot and both feet at the same time and talking crawling, kneeling, twisting, climbing heights, reaching above shoulder with the right, left and both shoulders at the same time, sense out touch, smelling, carrying, lifting up to 25 pounds, problem-solving, analytical abilities verbal communication, interpersonal skills, and creativity. Activities that occur occasionally, 1 to 3 hours, are: bending, stooping, squatting, crouching, pushing, pulling, climbing staircases, reaching at and below shoulder level with the right, left and both shoulders and the same time, fine manipulating, hearing, seeing with far vision, depth perception, accommodation, color vision, and field of vision/peripheral vision, carrying and lifting up to 50 pounds, organization skills, and concentration. Activities that will occur infrequently, up to one hour, are: standing, walking, use of fingers and hands, handling, seeing with near vision, carrying up to 10 pounds, lifting up to 24 pounds, working with interruptions, and time management.
