TITLE:  SCHOOL NURSE (BSN/RN/LPN) BSN PREFERRED
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Holds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) and is a licensed registered nurse in the state of Kentucky, or
• Registered Nursing Licensure or
• Practical Nursing Licensure, and
• has two years of nursing experience
• Possesses a valid driver’s license.
• Has demonstrated the ability or potential to work effectively with students, parents, and staff.
REPORTS TO: Assistant Superintendent of Operations/Health Services Coordinator
JOB GOAL: To address and maintain optimal health for students during the school day to facilitate optimal learning.  To provide case management services support.  To promote school-wide health and safety initiatives and build student and family capacity for adaptation, self-management, self-advocacy, and learning.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
• To provide care to students and staff presenting with exacerbation of chronic health issues, illness, and emergency care due to injury or acute illness.
• Administer medication in accordance with district/state requirements.
• Utilizes appropriate professional & age-appropriate communication with students, parents, and staff.
• Within the nurse’s scope of practice and state laws, trains and delegates to unlicensed assistive school personnel to administer medication and/or the delivery of health services as ordered by a licensed health care provider. Delegation to others involves initial assessment, training, competency validation, and supervision.
• Obtain parental consent for health services including specific procedures & medication administration.
• Assist faculty & staff in monitoring chronic medical conditions.
• Coordinate care and student emergency action plans related to diabetes, seizures, asthma, allergies, and use of applicable emergency medications.
• Develop an IHP (Individual Health Care Plan) for students with chronic illness.
• Serve on advisory committees/consultation for health accommodations necessary to support student individual education care plans, (i.e., 504 & IEP).
• Address potential health problems that are barriers to learning or symptoms of underlying medical condition by coordinating and performing mandated screenings.
• Initiate referrals according to state and school policies.
• Maintain health records and medical charting; update immunization and student records as needed. Prepare and submit periodical medical reports for appropriate organizations or district personnel and assure compliance with established laws and regulations. Provide staff educational in-services including, but not limited to CPR/AED/First Aid, infection control updates, Emergency Response Training & Stop the Bleed training yearly.
• Ensure medical equipment (including AED) is in proper working condition.
• Assist in evaluation of school emotional environment to decrease potential bullying and violence and/or an environment that is not conducive to optimal mental health and learning
• Provide health education information directly to individual students, groups of students, or classes and provide guidance and consultation about health education curriculum.
• Serve as a member of the coordinated school health team that promotes the health and well-being of school member through collaborative efforts.
• Provide case management information to families through telephone calls, written communication and home visits as needed.
• Serve as a representative of the school community and communicate with community health providers, and community health agencies/partnerships, to promote the health of the community.
• Maintain professional growth through participation in educational endeavors necessary for current licenser and participation and membership in professional organizations at local, state, and national levels.
• When necessary, make home visits to identify needs and assist parents in utilizing existing resources for providing care of the students.
• Promote health awareness activities such as fairs for staff & families and consult with other school staff, i.e., food service personnel, physical Education teachers, FRYSC, regarding healthy lifestyles and staff wellness programs.
• Maintain current knowledge of medical advances and information, public health issues and treatment procedures.
• Preform other duties consistent with the position assigned as requested by the supervisor.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Nurses Salary Schedule**(23-24)
7.5 hrs./day – 187 days

BSN will contribute to KTRS retirement system
RN/LPN will contribute to KPPA retirement system
**RNs hired BEFORE 4/17/2023 will be paid off the BSN salary schedule
