GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Performs difficult skilled clerical work and responsible for administrative work requiring a qualified typist; prepares and maintains fiscal and related records; serves as office manager and primary clerical support to a high school principal; does related work as required.  Work is performed under the general supervision of a principal.  Supervision may be exercised over school secretaries and aides.
ESSENTIAL TASKS
The following duties are normal for this position.  The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude other duties if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this position.  While this is intended to be an accurate reflection of the current job, management reserves the right to revise the job description.  Other duties may be required and assigned.
• Serves as high school office manager and primary clerical support to the principal and staff; serves as receptionist and telephone operator.
• Oversees and participates in the preparation and maintenance of files and records; assists students, teachers and parents.
• Handles a variety of routine technical and administrative assignments.
• Arranges meetings and conferences.
• Composes and types letters and memoranda in conformance with school policies or from brief instructions.
• Sets up and maintains office procedures and filing systems.
• Meets and screens visitors, answers the telephone, and processes mail.
• Maintains registers, attendance and grade records, and reports.
• Types letters, memos, reports, bulletins, requisitions, invoices, schedules, manuals, student files, and records; maintains computerized staffing lists.
• Performs budgetary and purchasing procedures in conformance with established guidelines and specific instructions, and distributes checks.
• Conducts surveys and prepares special reports.
• Supervises and trains subordinate clerical personnel.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Thorough knowledge of standard office practices, procedures, and equipment; thorough knowledge of school system routine and procedures; general knowledge of bookkeeping terminology, methods, and procedures; thorough knowledge of business English, spelling, and arithmetic; thorough knowledge of personnel and payroll procedures, financial recordkeeping, and banking procedures; ability to establish harmonious working relationships with others; ability to work under pressure; ability to organize and perform work independently; ability to type, take, and transcribe dictation accurately at a reasonable rate of speed; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others and to meet the public effectively; ability to plan and supervise the work of others.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school supplemented by various courses in business, typing, shorthand, and bookkeeping, and extensive experience in clerical and/or accounting work.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
This is light work requiring the exertion of up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and a negligible amount of constant force to move objects; work requires stooping, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, and fingering; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; visual acuity is required for preparing and analyzing written or computer data, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities. This position requires the ability to communicate (oral and written), coordinate, instruct, compute, and to evaluate on a consistent and on-going basis. WORK ENVIRONMENT
Inside office environmental conditions exist (temperature controlled, low hazard, low noise level).  The worker is not subject to adverse environmental conditions.
