General Description Under the direct supervision of a Crew Leader or, in the Crew Leader’s absence, the Facilities Maintenance Supervisor, to maintain, service and repair mechanical, plumbing and other miscellaneous systems and equipment and maintain the Park and Recreation Department facilities, grounds, and parks.
Essential Functions of the Job / Knowledge, Skills and Abilities ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB:
Recreation Center , Civic Center, Community Center and other buildings/facilities :
·       Assists in the maintenance, scheduling and servicing of mechanical, plumbing, heating, refrigeration and air conditioning systems.
·       Assists in the monitoring, maintenance and control of chemical composition of department swimming and wading pools and fountains.
·       Assists in the maintenance and repair of equipment.
·       Maintains outside grounds, including snow removal.
·       Performs limited electrical, carpentry and painting as required.
·       Maintains and resurfaces ice surfaces.
·       Performs custodial duties.
·       Assists in the direction of part-time, seasonal and temporary employees and volunteers.
·       Adheres to all department safety standards and guidelines.
·       Attends all required and assigned training and maintains current licenses and certificates as may be required by federal and state regulation and City policies.
Park Facilities :
·       Assists in the preparation, maintenance and repair of turf and playing surfaces of recreation fields and affiliated structures.
·       Performs maintenance, grounds-keeping and landscaping activities, including playground equipment within the park system.
·       Removes litter, trash and debris from parks.
·       Plow and remove snow on walkways, trails and recreational facility parking lots.
·       Installs, maintains, repairs and proposes upgrades for playground equipment, picnic tables, benches, bleachers, fencing and other park amenities.
·       Performs minor repairs to vehicles and machinery.
·       Performs maintenance, repair and cleaning of park buildings, shelters, and outdoor pools.
·       Prepares and maintains outdoor rinks and all park recreational sites.
·       Assists in general park maintenance activities as required.
·       Assists in the direction of part-time, seasonal and temporary employees and volunteers.
·       Adheres to all department safety standards and guidelines.
·       Attends all required and assigned training and maintains current licenses and certificates as may be required by federal and state regulation and City policies.
·       The position is subject to call out.
The aforementioned functions are normal for this position.  They are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive.  Other duties may be required and assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSA’s)
·       Requires strong mechanical aptitude including a basic understanding of electrical, heating and plumbing systems and the ability to perform general maintenance and repairs.
·       Knowledgeable in and the ability to perform grounds maintenance and horticultural activities.
·       Ability to safely apply herbicides, fertilizers and operate ground maintenance equipment.
·       Ability to operate the vehicles and equipment associated with building and grounds maintenance, which includes snow removal.
·       Knowledge of and ability to operate ice resurfacing and other arena equipment.
·       Ability to follow written and oral directions.
·       Ability to physically perform job functions.
·       Ability to work efficiently and independently or as a member of a crew.
Education and Experience Position requires a high school diploma or equivalent.  Post high school training and/or one to three years of experience in athletic surfaces, field and/or facility maintenance, horticultural functions, forestry management, carpentry and/or masonry work is desired. Ability to obtain necessary certifications upon request in assigned areas such as refrigeration handling, certified pool operator’s license, certified playground inspection, pesticide application etc.   Position requires a valid driver’s license.
Physical Requirements This work requires frequent exertion of up to 10 pounds of force and occasional exertion of over 100 pounds of force; work regularly requires speaking or hearing and using hands to finger, handle or feel, frequently requires standing, walking, pushing or pulling and lifting and occasionally requires sitting, climbing or balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling, reaching with hands and arms, tasting or smelling and repetitive motions; work requires close vision, distance vision, ability to adjust focus, depth perception, color perception and peripheral vision; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to receive detailed information through oral communications and/or to make fine distinctions in sound; work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, using of measuring devices, assembly or fabrication of parts within arms length, operating machines, operating motor vehicles or equipment and observing general surroundings and activities; work frequently requires working near moving mechanical parts and occasionally requires wet, humid conditions (non-weather), working in high, precarious places, exposure to fumes or airborne particles, exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals, exposure to outdoor weather conditions, exposure to extreme heat (non-weather), exposure to the risk of electrical shock, exposure to vibration, wearing a self contained breathing apparatus and exposure to bloodborne pathogens and may be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment; work is generally in a loud noise location (e.g. grounds maintenance, heavy traffic).
