Job Title: Associate Veterinarian Department: Administration FLSA Status: Full-Time Exempt Reports To: Director of Veterinary Services and Animal Care General Scope: Provides high-quality surgery and medical care for public and shelter animals, including but not limited to spay/neuter, treatment of various medical conditions, and wellness. Essential Function/Major Responsibilities: Examine, diagnose, and treat public-owned and shelter dogs and cats presented for wellness or other veterinary care. Perform high-quality, high-volume spay/neuter services for public-owned and shelter animals to help control pet overpopulation. Perform other appropriate surgical services or procedures as needed for public-owned and shelter animals. Oversee pre-and post-operative care of animals. Assist in disease management protocol development and execution, including vaccinating, laboratory testing, and treatment. Provide and direct clinical supervision of registered veterinary technicians and animal care technicians in planning and administering treatments to animals. Maintain a good working relationship with all staff members and volunteers, both within the veterinary clinic and with SICSA as a whole. Other duties as assigned. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Must possess required knowledge, skills, abilities, and experience, and be able to explain and demonstrate, with or without reasonable accommodations, that the essential functions of the job can be performed. Knowledge of the principles and practices of veterinary and shelter medicine; the most current veterinary practice and techniques relating to the treatment of injured and ill animals, and animal diseases and their prevention, control, and eradication. Understands the limits of shelter medicine; Surgical skills, with an emphasis on high-quality, high-volume spay/neuter surgeries for cats and dogs; Ability to communicate effectively with staff and volunteers; Ability to take a teamwork approach to the job by cooperating with others, offering to help others when needed, and considering larger organization or team goals rather than individual concerns; Willingness to adapt to and remain calm in a constantly-changing and stressful work environment; Unwavering compassion for helping animals in need Minimum Qualifications/Licenses/Certifications Required: Graduation from a college or university accredited by the American Veterinary Medical Association with a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine or Veterinary Medical Doctor degree. Licensed to practice veterinary medicine in the state of Ohio Physical Requirements/Work Environment: Ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, climb, and manipulate (lift, carry, and move) up to 50 pounds. Ability to be around animals of varying temperament in, occasionally, noisy environments. Other light physical demands (i.e., spending hours listening and talking).
