The Summer Camp Director (SCD) is responsible for providing leadership, guidance, and effective communication and maintaining summer camp participants' and support staff's well-being and safety. They must possess high energy and enthusiasm, genuinely enjoy working with children, and be team-oriented. The Summer Camp Director is responsible for planning, implementing, and facilitating a structured and highly engaging summer camp. The Summer Camp Director must be positive, patient, and respectful toward campers, parents, coworkers, and Youth and Family administration. All staff members are expected to interact and engage with the children throughout the day. This includes standing for long periods and participating in indoor and outdoor physical activities.Â

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:Â
Â
• Manages all staff and camp participants and is responsible for the overall health and well-being of the camp. Is a role model for all staff and camp participants, provides careful and attentive supervision, and is always alert.Â
• Responsible for the proper documentation of camp attendance.Â
• Manages campsite and equipment, assuring daily use and care of the property.
• Manages program activities, ensuring they are engaging, developmentally appropriate, and consistent with YMCA values.Â
• Maintains a safe, clean camp, adhering to licensing protocol.Â
• Attends training held by Youth and Family administration and conducts scheduled staff meetings with summer camp staff.
• Able to attend and participate in scheduled field trips and off-site activities.Â
• Follows YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical emergencies, behavior policy implementation, child abuse prevention, and all other emergency situations.Â
• Cultivates positive relationships and effectively communicates with parents, children, and other staff- models positive relationship-building skills in all interactions.Â
• Maintains ongoing communication with Youth and Family administration.Â
• Manages the setup and clean up after all camp activities.Â
• Performs other duties as assigned.Â

QUALIFICATIONS:
Â
• Must be at least 21 years of age or older.Â
• Have at least 48 college credits; 12 must be related to Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or other fields relating to group work with children. (or otherwise meet licensing standards)
• Six months of programmatic experience with children, preferably in a camp setting.
• Must complete 24 hours of training to meet the licensing standards of a licensed child day center.
• Preferred CPR/First-Aid. If not certified, will receive training through the YMCA.Â
• Exceptional group management, problem-solving, and conflict-resolution skills.Â
• Experience creating, planning, and facilitating interactive and educational/artistic activities relating to youth development, physical fitness, and academic enrichment.
• Love working with children.
• Must possess speaking, listening, and writing skills appropriate for interacting with children and adults.Â
• Must be capable of implementing directives related to the daily program.
• Must have the flexibility and the ability to adapt to changing circumstances.Â
• Demonstrate a working knowledge of the YMCA's mission, purpose, goals, childcare policies, and YMCA standards; ensure the program meets the highest standards of excellence.Â
