Pre-ETS INSTRUCTOR
ABOUT THE ACCESS ACADEMY
The Access Academy (TAA) partners with the State of Virginia (State) via the Vocational Rehabilitation (VR) program to assist local school systems (School) to comply with the Work Innovation Opportunity Act (WIOA) by providing curriculum and instruction that will equip and encourage qualifying students, ages 14 to 22, who have Individualized Education Plans [IEP], to successfully transition from school to the workplace. TAA seeks to create consistently excellent learning experiences from classroom to classroom so every Special Education (SPED) student has the opportunity to reach workplace readiness before graduation. TAA empowers and supports instructors to facilitate highly interactive, objective-driven lessons in self-discovery, career exploration, communication skills, self-advocacy, job-searching, interviewing skills, independent living, and post-secondary decisions in order to help students identify and leverage their individual strengths, skills, resources, and experiences to find successful, sustainable, and satisfying employment after high school in a competitive market. JOB OVERVIEW
The instructor provides Pre-Employment Transition Services (Pre-ETS) to students (ages 14-22) with disabilities. The instructor teaches engagingly and enthusiastically with professionalism, sensitivity, and respect in regard to the needs of both the students and school personnel. In addition to teaching in the classroom, the instructor performs essential administrative tasks such as promptly scanning student attendance forms, communicating regularly with school personnel, supervisors, and peers through email, phone, and video conferencing, and contributing to the refinement of the organization through timely responses to feedback forms and collaborative documents. The instructor works most closely with students, classroom teachers, school administrators, and the regional coordinator.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
• Supports the mission, vision and culture of The Access Academy.
• Leads in dress, conduct, attitude, and intellectual pursuit.
• Prepares for lessons beforehand and caters content to each class
• Uses innovative teaching methods implementing critical thinking strategies.
• Lessons contain hands-on, interactive activities incorporating technology where appropriate. Instruction and assessment is differentiated to challenge each student appropriately.
• The instructor conscientiously provides accommodations to students with identified learning challenges in consultation with the classroom teacher or learning specialist.
• Reads over all documentation provided in a student’s IEP and prepares instruction accordingly.
• Serves as a primary contact between TAA and its school/VR partners.
• Communicates, plans, and calendars with the classroom teachers, school administrators, and regional coordinator.
• Distributes, retrieves, and scans attendance sheets in a timely manner.
• Responds promptly and professionally to emails and other forms of communication.
• Reports all essential documents (timesheets, mileage, curriculum feedback) on or before the weekly deadline.

QUALIFICATIONS
• Education level
• Minimum: High School Diploma or Equivalent
• Preferred: Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Associate's Degree
• Experience
• At least six (6) months professional experience working with individuals with disabilities
• Written documentation of one (1) year of successful experience in education, social work, human resources, business, employment counseling, job placement, job coaching or a public vocational rehabilitation program
• Specific skills
• Experience with Google Drive preferred (Shared Drives, Documents, Slides, Forms, Calendars, and Sheets).
• Experience with Genius Scan (or comparable scanning app)
• Experience with Gmail
• Able to teach groups of students
• Able to facilitate lesson plans
• Able to discern and differentiate best mode for instruction
• Can coordinate and manage classroom activities

• Typical workday falls between 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM
• ~10 to 40 hours per week, depending on assignment
