General Definition of Work To provide probation supervision and assessment services to offenders referred by the courts to ensure their compliance with the conditions of probation imposed by the court.
Essential Functions • Employ approved interview techniques and assessment procedures necessary to determine the offenders level of competency and need.
• Review criminal records, medical records, treatment reports and social histories to assess appropriate levels of supervision.
• Apply approved classification tools to determine levels of appropriate mental health, psychological, or substance abuse, and social competency intervention and services.
• Supervise and monitor offender progress completing required intervention and sanctions imposed by the court.
• Complete required breath testing and drug screening as ordered by the courts.
• Prepare reports for the court concerning the probationer's progress and adjustment to probation.
• Maintain orderly files and case records.
• Fully utilize state-approved and guided computerized programs (PTCC) to track and monitor offender progress.
• Prepare special reports for the courts as requested.
• Be effective in handling and maintaining confrontational individuals.
• Be effective in working with people individually.
• Be effective in working with people in group settings.
• Collaborate with worksites to monitor community service.
• Such other duties as may be assigned by the director.
Qualification Requirements Education & Experience
Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university with a major in Criminal Justice, Psychology, Sociology, or related field is required.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Knowledge and experience in interviewing practices and procedures. Knowledge of the personal and social dynamics of substance abuse. Knowledge and proficiency in the use of computer programs and computer-based data entry.Knowledge of the court system. Ability to interpret regulations, guidelines and statues. Ability to communicate verbally and in writing. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships in office settings. Ability to organize and prioritize time and tasks. Minimum of two years' previous experience required working in probation/parole, law enforcement, and/or case management in a human services field. Previous experience working in VASAP preferred.
