Description The City of Roanoke is seeking a Custodian to perform custodial work in the care and cleaning of buildings in accordance with ISSA 540 cleaning standards and established production goals. Job responsibilities include dusting chairs, tables, shelves and other furniture or equipment; washing windows, walls, woodwork and venetian blinds; checking heating and air conditioning equipment for proper operation; and closing and locking buildings after late meetings. The successful candidate will also sweep, mop, wax and use buffers on floors as well as load and unload cleaning and polishing equipment and materials to be transported by truck. This position requires a high school diploma or general education degree (GED); related experience and/or training in  custodial or building maintenance work; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

This is a non-exempt position. Examples of Duties SUMMARY
Performs custodial work in the care and cleaning of buildings in accordance with ISSA 540 cleaning standards and established production goals.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Collects and disposes of refuse from interior and exterior of assigned buildings/areas; gathers items for recycling
Cleans and disinfects toilets, urinals and lavatories; refills soap, towel and tissue dispensers
Washes windows, walls, woodwork, bathroom fixtures and venetian blinds
Prepares quantities of cleaning and polishing materials appropriate for assigned tasks
Dust chairs, tables, shelves and other furniture or equipment
Checks heating and air conditioning equipment for proper operation
Sweeps, mops, waxes and uses buffers, burnishers, auto scrubbers
and any other custodial equipment on floors
Shampoos carpets as needed
Reports repairs beyond capabilities of custodial workers to supervisor
Restocks all supplies such as paper towels, toilet paper, soaps, etc.
Closes and locks buildings after late meetings
Loads and unloads cleaning and polishing equipment and materials to be transported by truck
Responds to special requests from departments
Maintains inventory of cleaning supplies, materials and equipment
Receives and relates assignments to others
