JOB SUMMARY:
Directly supervise, lead and coordinate the daily activities of Security and Transportation workers. Assists with management decisions and activities. Oversee implementation of security and courier services, train and educate staff in security measures as needed.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION(S):
High School diploma or equivalent and two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience required.
Must have a valid Pennsylvania driver's license: (proof required upon request).
CPI and MOAB must be obtained within 12 months of hire or transfer date to role.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATION(S):
Minimum of 5 years of security, law enforcement, corrections, or military experience preferred.
Minimum of 3 years experience serving in a supervisory capacity preferred.
IAHSS Basic training to be obtained within twelve (12 months) of hire or transfer date to role preferred.
IAHSS Supervisor level training to be obtained within 24 months of hire or transfer to the role preferred.
Advanced understanding/experience of security access control systems is preferred.
Advanced understanding of video surveillance systems is preferred.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES- The percentage of time spent performing essential functions is 95%. Qualified individuals must have the ability (with or without reasonable accommodation) to perform the following duties:
•   Responsible to the Director of Security and to the Manager of Security for overseeing the Medical Center security functions covering a 24-hour time period, to include the direct supervision of couriers, senior and regular patrol officers.
•   Is responsible for the command of the Security and Transportation Department in the absence of the Security Manager.
•   Acts as liaison between the Transportation Department and its internal partners in Penn State Health.
•   Is responsible for ensuring all assigned Couriers, Security Officers and Supervisors are properly trained.
•   Institutes discipline and corrective action plans for violations of policy in consultation with the Security Manager.
•   Must complete statistical analysis of calls for service. •   Must track and report the following; call offs; PTO; Overtime; vehicle repairs & Service; equipment inventory and needs.
•   Will conduct personnel inspections to ensure all assigned Security Officers maintain a neat and professional uniform appearance.
•   Educates Security Officers in any new policies, procedures, equipment or techniques.
•   Performs the duties and responsibilities of Couriers, Security Lieutenants, and Security Officers when required.
•   Responsible for ensuring that all paperwork is properly completed and maintained according to Medical Center and Departmental Policy.
•   Ensure that all departmental Policies and Procedures are adhered to and that any changes are properly communicated.
•   Supervise the work of employees to ensure adherence to quality standards, deadlines, and proper procedures, correcting errors or problems.
•   Resolve customer complaints or answer customers' questions regarding policies and procedures.
•   Provide employees with guidance in handling difficult or complex problems or in resolving escalated complaints or disputes.
•   Review records or reports pertaining to activities such as production and payroll to verify details, monitor work activities, or evaluate performance.
•   Discuss job performance problems with employees to identify causes and issues and to work on resolving problems.
•   Prepare and issue work schedules, deadlines, and duty assignments for staff.
•   Participate in the recruitment, interviewing, and selection of employees.
•   Interpret and communicate work procedures and company policies to staff.
•   Provide input into the evaluation of employees' job performance and conformance to regulations and recommend appropriate personnel action.
•   Train or instruct employees in job duties or company policies or arrange for training to be provided.
•   Research, compile, and prepare reports, manuals, correspondence, or other information required by management or governmental agencies.
•   Implement corporate or departmental policies, procedures, and service standards in conjunction with management.
•   Participate in the work of subordinates to facilitate productivity or to overcome difficult aspects of work.
•  Make recommendations to management concerning such issues as staffing decisions or procedural changes.
•   Maintain records pertaining to inventory, personnel, orders, supplies, or maintenance.
•   Consult with managers or other personnel to resolve problems.
•   Plan, direct, control, and coordinate Security programs, policies and procedures on respective shifts as assigned and supervise security activities within the guidelines established by the Medical Center.
•   Provide direct supervision of shift subordinates to include performance evaluations, counseling, training, disciplinary actions, scheduling and professional developments.
•   Assure the orderly movement of vehicle and pedestrian traffic on the campus within the scope of existing policies.
•   Initiate follow-up investigations to ensure closure of incidents.
•   Supervise and maintain a patrol program dedicated to the prevention, detection, reporting, and investigation of crime and other security related issues.
•   Investigate unlawful acts observed or reported and cooperate with local, state and federal agencies conducting investigations.
•   Maintain a workable rapport with the Medical Center community of students, employees, patients and visitors.
