The Medical Billing Analyst maintains knowledge of billing area assigned. This position works under limited supervision and may look to the Team Lead or Manager for help in answering questions and furthering education around task completion. The Medical Billing Analyst uses discretion/ good judgment in dealing with confidential patient protected information. Works in a fast-paced, office environment with high productivity and accuracy standards that requires focus and concentration on tedious details and research.
The job duties for the Medical Billing Analyst includes, but is not limited to, the following:
Provides general support for Revenue Cycle Accounts Receivable functions within specified third party payer team. Maintains a working knowledge of assigned payer responsibilities. This position works with limited supervision under the direction of team management. Uses discretion in dealing with confidential patient protected information. Works in a fast-paced, office environment with high productivity and accuracy standards that require detailed analyzation, research and critical thinking skills to resolve claims issues.
- Apply in-depth knowledge of the industry standard billing rules, regulations, and procedures to investigate and resolve problems related to outstanding insurance and patient accounts in compliance with all Federal and State Billing requirements.
- Conducts analysis of complex accounts and determines necessary actions needed for claim resolution. Manages denial, aged, no response, and "at risk" AR.
- Utilizes strong analytical, problem solving, and root cause analysis skills to evaluate problems and diagnose unconventional payer trends and propose resolutions.
- Recognizes the various timeframe requirements as assigned by payer acting as the primary line of defense against potential timely filing losses including filing written 1st, 2nd and 3rd level appeals to maximize cash flow and mitigate bad debt.
- Exhibits a broad knowledge of medical billing collection practices and ICD-10/CPT/HCPCS/Modifiers and medical terminology. Prepares, reviews, and transmits claims using billing software, including electronic and paper processing.
- Work special assignments based on payer requirements and specialized functions determined by management review, voluntarily or assigned.
- Monitors AR balances and aggressively pursues collections on outstanding claims with appropriate payers.
- Responds to internal billing inquiries by researching and effectively resolving issues. Documents actions taken and communicates results appropriately.
Shift Details Required Mon - Fri 8:00am-4:30pm Overtime as needed
What We Require:
Education: High School graduate required (or equivalent); some college education preferred.
Experience: Two years of applicable experience desired.
Other Minimum Qualifications: Effective communication, analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills required. Excellent interpersonal skills required. Requires excellent hearing, clear/concise speech, excellent finger dexterity to operate computer terminal/keyboarding as well as use of a calculator. Must be proficient with word processing, computer/PC skills. Excellent documentation and follow-up skills required.
