Roanoke County is currently seeking a Project Specialist position. This position is full-time, 260 day contract, 8 hours per day, eligible for benefits on the RCPS Pay Plan Grade 115.
Position Description/Job Summary :
Works with the Director of Facilities and Operations to complete special projects primarily related to minor construction, renovation, and repair of existing and new facilities and grounds.
Responsibilities/Duties/Functions/Tasks :
Operate a variety of heavy equipment including skid steer, backhoe, lift, and other equipment.
Construct and repair structural woodwork, working from blueprints, drawings, or oral instructions.
Construct forms, pour, and finish concrete.
Erect and work from scaffolding.
Estimate supplies and materials.
Operate grounds equipment including pressure washer, zero-turn mower, chain saw, and other equipment.
Install drywall, doors, windows, ceilings, flooring, footers, framing, and other general construction tasks.
Demolition of drywall, doors, windows, ceilings, flooring, framing and other general construction demolition.
Communicates effectively both orally and in writing.
Demonstrates flexibility, a positive attitude, initiative, motivation, and sound decision-making ability.
Maintains mutual respect and courtesy with all employees, customers, and stakeholders.
Works independently and/or collaboratively with others in a wide variety of circumstances.
Practices confidentiality always.

Completes small/medium size construction and renovation projects.
Works with other trades in the maintenance department in a positive and supportive manner as needed.
Knowledgeable of standard practices, methods, tools, and materials of the trade, including hazards and safety precautions.
Ability to support other employees in a positive manner as a crew leader as needed.
Other duties as assigned by the Director of Facilities and Operations.
Education and Experience
Possess a high school diploma or equivalent.
Willingness to obtain new certifications through paid training as needed.
CDL or willingness to obtain a CDL preferred.
A minimum of 5 years of general construction experience is preferred.
Must pass background screening required for employment.
