The Acute Care Surgery Service (ACS) has an exciting opportunity for an Advance Care Practitioner (ACP) looking to join the Advance Practice team under the Emergency General Surgery Service (EGS) at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital (CRMH). CRMH is a 737-bed full-service tertiary/quaternary care academic health center, it is the flagship institution of Carilion Clinic. CRMH has been certified as the region's only Level 1 trauma center since 1983. With a coverage area of more than a 15,000-square-mile that includes two major interstates and thousands of acres of national forest. CRMH has the busiest Emergency Department in the state of Virginia due to its large catchment area. ACS is the umbrella surgery service covering three divisions: Trauma, Emergency General Surgery, and Surgical Critical Care. The ACS ACP service consists of 14 Full Time ACPs, 5 Flex Time ACPs and 2 ACP Fellows. The ACS ACP leadership structure is made up of ACPs and is focused on optimizing and supporting the performance of the ACP group to improve productivity, job satisfaction, talent utilization and maximization of scope of practice. Will work 12 hour shifts- 6am- 6pm. 13 shifts every 4 weeks. Includes weekends and holidays.
Surgical Critical Care is the branch that manages the critical care needs of Trauma, Emergency General Surgery, Neurosurgery, Vascular Surgery and other patients requiring critical care management in a Surgical Intensive Care unit.
Distinct functions of the ACP position include patient management, clinical decision making, bedside procedures (including bedside incision and drainage, chest tube placement, and removal, wound repair, wound management, drain management, central lines, dialysis catheters, arterial lines), and teaching of patients, family, and staff. Other opportunities may include research involvement, quality and process improvement, peer review committees and shared governance.
The ACP will perform the following: history and physicals; order and interpret tests; make preliminary diagnosis; treat injuries/illness; assist with surgical procedures; counsel patient and/or prescribe medication. The ACP works collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team including Attending Physicians, Fellows, Residents, other ACPs, medical and ACP students, Clinical Nurse Specialists, Pharmacists, Case Managers, Social workers, Consultants and more. The team's goal is to deliver high quality, best practice, timely, cost-effective care.
While the primary service for this position is the Trauma/Neuro/Surgical ICUs, The ACP will be able to provide care from the initial consult, throughout the hospital stay in the ICU/PCU/Floor, to disposition, and perform outpatient follow-up in the clinic. The ACP is exceptional at maintaining a patient-family centered focus throughout the hospital course and are vital in the management of complex social situations and planning for a safe and successful hospital discharge and ensuring proper follow-up to minimize need for readmissions.

What We Require:
Education: Graduate of an Accredited Nurse Practitioner program.
Licensure/Certification: Current Virginia State Licensed Nurse Practitioner (NP) and DEA license required, or must be eligible to obtain. AHA BLS-HCP certification required. Advanced Life Support certification required. Eligible for prescriptive authority in accordance with State regulations and as authorized by the Virginia Boards of Medicine. Capable of meeting credentialing or job function requirements as needed based on the requirements of the practice and of managed care payors and insurers. Qualifies for malpractice insurance and is accepted by Carilion Clinic's malpractice insurance carrier.
Other: Able to work collaboratively with physicians and other health care providers. Demonstrates good written and oral communication skills. Computer literacy required for automated computer systems, including electronic medical records.
