General Definition of Work Performs manual work providing animal shelter services, receiving, processing, and caring for animals, assisting the public, maintaining shelter facilities and grounds, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the moderate supervision of the Animal Shelter Manager.
Essential Functions Receives and processes incoming animals; scans animals for microchips and tattoos/identification; assists the public with owner released animals and adoptions. Feeds and waters animals; bathes animals; observes and cares for animals showing indications of not eating or drinking, illness, or injury; administers immunizations and medications; performs basic medical care and performs general wellness exams; weighs and grooms animals; euthanizes animals; schedules veterinary appointments. Disinfects and cleans animal housing areas including kennels, cages, and shelter grounds; reports building and facility maintenance needs. Answers the telephone; receives and responds to inquiries and complaints. Performs general custodial and grounds keeping duties; sweeps and mops floors; picks up trash on shelter grounds; removes trash from facilities; washes and dries towels and blankets; cleans restrooms; dusts furniture. Communicates with the general public concerning adoption, release, and redemption of animal; processes reclaimed or adopted animals; conducts shelter tours. Prepares and maintains files, records, reports, and forms; updates and maintains animal records; creates and updates forms. Collects fees from owners for citations, vaccination, adoptions, etc.; prepares financial reports; files and maintains credit card purchase records. Receives, stocks, and inventories supplies; reports supply needs to supervisor. Attends community events to promote the adoption of animals. Assists with training and directing part time staff as assigned.
