Carilion Clinic is a six-hospital health system located in beautiful Southwest Virginia. Its flagship hospital, Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital (CRMH), is a 763-bed academic medical center, Level I Trauma Center, tertiary/quaternary referral center, and Certified Primary Stroke center that has consistently been ranked by US News as a Best Hospital in the state of Virginia. Carilion Children's, a 92-bed "hospital within a hospital", includes a 24-bed inpatient General Pediatrics unit, a 60-bed Level IIIB Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (ICU), an eight-bed Pediatric ICU, a 15-bed inpatient pediatric psychiatric unit, and a dedicated Pediatric Emergency Department. Carilion Clinic is also affiliated with the Virginia Tech-Carilion School of Medicine and has numerous post-graduate training programs, including multiple medical and surgical residencies and fellowships.
The Clinical Staff II Pediatrics pharmacist is a pediatric leader within the pharmacy department and works closely with multiple pediatric clinical pharmacists. This pharmacist shares duties with one other Clinical Staff II pediatric pharmacist, alternating between 4 weeks of rounding with a multidisciplinary healthcare team on the general pediatric unit and PICU and 4 weeks of day/evening decentralized work, including focused coverage of pediatric oncology, mother/baby units, and inpatient child/adolescent psychiatry. Weekend coverage is provided by the pharmacist during their decentralized block, averaging once every 4th weekend.
CRMH also has a pharmacy residency program comprised of 13 residents, including seven PGY1s and six PGY2s in Internal Medicine, Critical Care, Infectious Diseases, and Health System Pharmacy Administration and Leadership. Clinical Staff II pharmacists are expected to serve as preceptors for pharmacy students and residents for elective rotations, as well as participate in other resident learning experiences. Pediatric pharmacists will be required to participate in pediatric emergency response and engage in pediatric committee work. Various other clinical experiences involving pediatric process improvement, Pediatric Fundamental Critical Care Support (PFCCS), medical resident and student education, and research opportunities are available.
Qualified candidates must be a graduate of a College of Pharmacy accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) and must possess a current Virginia pharmacist license or be eligible for licensure.
