SUBFUNCTION DEFINITION: The Infection Preventionist develops, reviews, and updates the facility's protocols and procedures for infection control and prevention and insures adherence through rounding, education & intervention; performs surveillance for nosocomial infection; & acts as a consultant/collaborator on multiple committees house-wide.
REPRESENTATIVE RESPONSIBILITIES
Infection Control
Conduct surveillance and reporting of communicable diseases, healthcare associated infections, and/or health risks from the built environment including air and water. Complete necessary reports, review ICRAs and facilities and construction documentation, and maintain records to document infection prevention and control activities. Work collaboratively with program members and external stakeholders to identify areas of risk of endemic and epidemic healthcare acquired infections and the built environment to patients, visitors and employees. Make recommendations to supervisor and program leaders based on learnings. Assist in the development of policies and procedures to identify and reduce risks to patients, families and employees. Participate in outbreak investigations and bio response preparation and execution. Collaborate with Employee Health and Occupational Safety and Environmental Health to provide post exposure testing, treatment and prophylaxis.
Compliance
Establish and maintain working relationships with stakeholders throughout CCHMC to carry out Infection Prevention and Control program activities. Respond to Program Coordinator requests and deadlines in a timely manner. Provide accurate, concise information in response to stakeholder inquiries. Represent the program as an active member of committees and group rounds to identify risks, facilitate policy adherence, and insure compliance with regulatory standards at the hospital base and satellite facilities.
Research
Under the direction of the Program Director, participate and/or lead as desired in research activities related to infection prevention and control. Identify mentor(s) and project for advanced degree training or certification (e.g. master's degree)
Data Management
Oversee data entry into and maintain local and external electronic databases (NHSN, ODRS, Vigilanz, Epic). Conduct and oversee regular, routine data analysis and visual report displays to provide meaningful data to program members and stakeholders. Review timeliness, accuracy, availability and security of information.
Process Improvement
Participate and lead performance improvement efforts related to infection prevention and control.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
Required:
• Bachelor's degree in a related field
• 2 - 5 years of work experience in a related job discipline
• Requires clinical license (ex. CIC), certification (ex. ASHE) or training
Preferred:
Will be required to travel to Cincinnati Children's locations in Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana. Travel is generally scheduled in advance.
