Clinical Nurse Educator, Varied Shift, Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU)
UC Health is hiring a Full-time Nurse Educator for the Medical ICU Department at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center.
The Nurse Educator will support the Medical Center, delivering high-quality care to patients based on assessed needs, established standards of care, and according to policy and procedures.
Population served: Encompass the broad spectrum of critically ill patients in medicine including but not limited to sepsis, diabetic ketoacidosis, suicides, end-stage liver disease, end-stage renal disease, gastro-intestinal bleeds, acute respiratory distress syndrome, Pneumonia, Communicable diseases, end-of-life care, Post Arrest Care and patients that have acute on chronic medical issues/comorbidities. Bedside procedures- intubations, lines, and bronchs, Level 1, Minnesota tube, manual proning, and bedside CRRT.
Patients are typically admitted to this unit from the Emergency Department, outside facilities, and various units within our facility.  There is a collaboration of interdisciplinary teams which is essential to the care provided to these patient populations.  All patients admitted to this unit are under the care of Pulmonary Faculty Attendings with physician coverage 24/7.  MICU Nursing staff respond to all rapids and codes in the hospital. MICU maintains the arrest bed 24/7 for rapidly declining patients in the hospital environment.

Responsibilities:
Patient Population
• Engages in population-appropriate communication.
• Has knowledge of growth and development milestones and tasks.
• Gives clear instructions to patients/families regarding treatment.
• Involves family/guardian in the assessment, initial treatment, and continuing care of the patient.
• Identifies any physical limitations of the patient and deploys intervention when necessary.
• Recognizes and responds appropriately to patients/families with behavioral health problems.
• Interprets population-related data and plans care appropriately.
• Identifies and responds appropriately to different needs resulting from, unique psychological needs or those associated with religious/cultural norms.

Education component
• Identifies nursing management/staff development/nursing staff educational needs of the associates.
• Develop in-service and continuing education programs to meet the identified learning needs of the associates by assessing the learning needs of the associates, planning appropriate programs and learning experiences to meet the identified learning needs of the associates, working with the associates to promote his/her active participation in policies and procedures and standards of care, assisting with required nursing certifications, evaluating the educational programs offered.
• Develops or participates in the development of appropriate materials to facilitate the education of associates. Plans for the education of individuals or groups of associates.
• Develops and presents educational programs and conferences.
• Facilitates the application of appropriate theories of nursing and other sciences.
Collaboration/consultations component
• Collaborates with managers/directors to develop strategic plans in area of specialty
• Collaborates with a manager regarding clinical/educational needs that affect financial and/or labor for specialty areas.
• Collaborates with nursing and other healthcare professionals in the establishment of goals and implementation of goals.
• Collaborates with the nurse managers and staff to identify clinical activities to facilitate the professional growth of the health care team.
Job Function
• Provides leadership in the assessment, development, and implementation of policies and procedures/standards of care that are directly and indirectly related to the area of specialization.
• Participates in the organizational effectiveness as related to area of specialization
• Facilitates nurse-to-nurse consulting process. Provides associate consultation.

Qualifications:
Minimum Required: Required: Master’s Degree in Nursing.
Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Ohio.
Current BLS certifications are required.
Certification in Education and/or clinical specialty areas is strongly preferred. If not currently certified, expected to achieve certification within 1 year of eligibility. |
Minimum Required: 3 years clinical experience.
