Position Description, Expectations, and Outcomes
The apprentice position is a full-time (40 hours a week) paid position, works the same hours/days as preceptor, and is subject to the same conditions of all Cincinnati Children’s medical assistants.
Travel to different Children’s satellite locations
Evening and weekend hours
A partnership with the Cincinnati Health Collaborative and Cincinnati State Medical Apprenticeship leadership
6 months of educational classroom work, once a week at Cincinnati State Evendale location.
During those 6 months, the MA Apprentice is training and implementing classroom material at Cincinnati Children’s with a Cincinnati Children's MA and/or RN Preceptor
After 6 months of weekly classroom training through Cincinnati State, the MA Apprentice graduates from Cincinnati State as a Medical Assistant and sits for the CCMA (NHA) exam.
Upon successful completion of the apprenticeship program, it is the intention of Cincinnati Children’s to extend an offer of ongoing employment.
The apprentice continues to work as a Medical Assistant and is checked on throughout the remainder of the last 6 months of the yearlong apprenticeship.
The MA Apprenticeship is a yearlong with a year commitment to work as a Medical Assistant 0.5 FTE or higher for an additional year (2 years total commitment).

Expected Starting Salary Range: 15.50 - 18.40
PURPOSE OF POSITION: To complete extensive entry-level training in clinical; technical; scientific; administrative and/or supportive duties relevant to a specific position/function at the direction of management/ preceptor and under the supervision of a nurse; licensed physician; or licensed professional as required. Upon the successful completion of the trainee program and attainment of applicable certification; the Trainee will be able to perform all duties of the position/function within the specified discipline.
REPRESENTATIVE RESPONSIBILITIES
·Job Duties
Provide competent clinical, technical, scientific, administrative and/or supportive services based on CCHMC policy, best practice guidelines and/or department needs as defined in program-specific guidelines. Perform all assigned duties and comply with all department clinical, research, operational, and regulatory standards.
·Customer Service
Act as a customer advocate and strives to meet the needs of, and to support, patients, families, and/or colleagues. Utilize a customer focus to complete assignments and/or interact with others in a courteous, attentive, and conscientious manner. Respond quickly to requests and concerns. ·Data Management
Manage records per department policy. Assist with collection and entry of data for various forms and information systems. Obtain consent and release of information forms when indicated. Properly maintain patient files, records and other information. Demonstrate adherence to established documentation practices with accurate and detailed data entry and document management.
·Training
Complete all coursework in the specific discipline within the assigned deadline, engage in all aspects of training, and approach the training with an inquisitive and professional demeanor.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
Required: · High school diploma or equivalent
·Eligible for admission/enrollment in position/function certification program(as applicable Must maintain satisfactory performance AND successfully complete all job-specific training as defined by program guidelines
·Obtain program-specific certification/licensure AND register with all applicable governing body by date specified in program guidelines
